I guess I’m a big bike guy deep down. Probably the biggest factor for this is due to my military history: I spent 26 months in combat, two different 13 month deployments to Iraq. In addition, a Black Belt Martial Arts Instructor, Swim Instructor, and Drill Instructor. So my fear/adrenaline/excitement levels were raised to such a high degree, most bikes or rides down just down to the beach don’t do much for me. This is probably why I love track days, taking courses over and over, practicing in parking lots or in the dirt where I’m exploring the limits. Some riders I know get that feeling just by riding 30mph around their neighborhood. That’s ok. We all have our reasons. This is also why I love @nelsonracingengines videos on YouTube and seeing 1,000+ hp engines dropped into various cars/trucks. The sheer power is thrilling as well as just knowing what it can do. All were fun bikes for their own reasons. I learned after my Speed Triple that I don’t like full fairing sport bikes anymore only due to their ultra-leaning forward controls causing massive amounts of discomfort while riding on the streets, which is what I ride 99% of the time. Upright/naked has been my choice since and recommend to others since I’ve had the experience on both. The power, brakes, suspension, etc. of sport bikes are awesome but the uncomfortable positioning isn’t worth it, for me. I don’t recommend big bikes to any rider, unless those who don’t have the experience—meaning specifically numerous high level formal training with tons of practice. Even if a person does, big bikes may not be their thing either way. Just sharing my thoughts as I was going through all the pictures on my phone. Stay healthy friends.
