He, y issue is how different Alicent is. Rhaenyra is exactly how she was set up to be…. “What happens to the vivacious youthful princess when settled to a castle to pop out babies” is literally what is set up. Hence the tears at the wedding. She was dying in someways. Never to be the same. Alicent tho, she couldn’t muster any forgiveness for a lie by omission? After she married her father? It makes no sense. Ten years…. She could forgive.

And making it unclear of her motivations, since we never knew her. At least say the child is dead inside her. Otherwise a mother would take a knife to her stomach to give a child a chance. Smallest of chances. It ruined the episode for me. And not building out the fire better. Showing how it was set, specifically for Lyonel and how Harwin was running to save his father….and accidentally died. It needed two episodes. Or a rewrite. I love Olivia as Alicent. CRISTON is a c*nt. Loathe him from the book and the backstory was good accept, or showing the bridge. So I do not think he loved Rhaenyra. Just that he wanted to clean his white cloak from stain. Marriage would do that. He thought so anyways. Never about her, I believe, but without being clear, it made it too jarring in 10 years. Ok that’s my 📕 book. Sunday could be epic. Or it could be rushed. Hoping for epic.

Alicent is just bitter and mad that she had to do things a certain way and Rhaenyra does what she wants. I personally don't think she would kill Alicents kids either. The way Alicent acts makes me want to push her out a window lol. When this civil war gets started it will be Alicents fault and I hope Syrax eats her.

Which she was, the episode opened with her giving birth which is an exhausting experience. She was tired the entire episode and not much time passed throughout the episode she still had her post pregnancy tummy. I say give her another go since it was our 1st episode with the new actress.

2022-09-28 18:39:52 +0000 UTCI agree @Michael; I could see many of the same traits in Rhaenyra both ages; in my viewing, Alicent is the one who seems markedly different from her younger self (but that could be from a decade of paranoia/loneliness/unhappiness)...

2022-09-28 15:58:36 +0000 UTCNot that I'm trying to convince you to change your mind - you are entitled to like or dislike whatever! - but I like D'Arcy in this first ep. as Rhaenyra and will say that the shift in personality is likely intentional as it reflects how she is at this age in the book...she was once the "Realm's Delight" as a young Princess but the years as an heir to the throne with so little agency over her life, and getting a family, definitely changed her. Also, the older actors were all cast first and the younger versions cast after specifically to be more vibrant and youthful versions for the backstory. I hope further episodes help Emma grow on you! Either way, plenty of other characters and drama to enjoy=)

2022-09-28 14:59:51 +0000 UTCGenerally I really like this new show the recasting has been a bit hit and miss for me. I suppose those thing are always a bit tricky since you tend to be biased for the first iteration of the character :D Alicent was a great recast - similar in looks but also in demeaner/personality etc. Leanor was a bit mediocre the actors looked nothing alike at all - I suppose the new did catch a bit of the old ones personality dappled with 10 years of living fatigue maybe :-) Leana was great. I kinda bought "old" leana would had been the little one as grown up. Rhaenyra was probably the one that bothered me the most. The looks are close enough I suppose but the new actress seem to have none of the personality traits the old one did and zero charisma - I am not happy about that :D
