What I DO have a problem with is an asshole saying that people are "patreons who clearly only watch white only films" about those people who like the movie. THAT was the bigoted statement, not mine.

It’s crazy u say we are more alike than not yet that isn’t the case in voting. Black lead films don’t ever really get a chance unless they are insanely popular in the zeitgeist. I’m willing to bet most of the folks voting have never even seen these films. Yet I’ve seen most of the ones in polls whether predominantly black or not. I don’t close my mind off to a section of films.

The last I watched was 12yrs a slave. I do see them as still needed because younger ppl need to be educated on how bad slavery was just in case they fix their mouths to ever say “get over it already”. Me personally I’m done watching them. I no longer need movies to tell me that story especially the way some have decided to make them.

2022-12-10 20:26:00 +0000 UTCWhite woman here. I’m so glad you spoke up about Lincoln because I thought I was losing my mind how much everyone was hyping up that movie. It’s three hours of white guys going “aren’t we so great caring about slavery”. And I’m normally averse to posting spoilers but this movie is asking a lot of time and patience of its viewer, especially on this subject. People who hype it up really gotta think about why they like it so much and maybe there are better films about this time in history that are made by black people and actually feature black people, like Underground Railroad. Are they gonna watch Antoine Fuqua’s new film Emancipation or are they going to fuss about Will Smith being in the lead? Applies to other films too. Everybody hyped up Moneyball, but have they watched High Flying Bird with Andre Holland and Bill Duke and Zazie Beetz that’s actually about the black experience in basketball and getting control over the game again? And as I said last time, Daniel Day Lewis was leagues better in Phantom Thread and There Will Be Blood so people can suggest those films if they need to see one of his movies that bad.

It’s the fact that great films from a script standpoint that feature a person of color as the main protagonists, never win polls. It’s not like he’s even seen the movies before. Lincoln almost won in the last poll. You don’t see that as just weird? It’s whatever though. I joined Jimmys patreon because I found him on YT doing Spartacus reactions. Not a “black” thing at all but I did support because it is a brutha.

Never once have I ( a blk guy) come on this channel looking for the Black perspective or something from jimmy. In fact part of the reason I got hooked on this channel was it was someone who looked like me who was into stuff black people usually werent into. Low key im about to take off my votes for black dynamite and zorro on principle lol

This Lincoln stuff is WILD. I only voted for dynamite and zorro. Prime Catherine zeta is something I can always watch. If anyone wants a vote of mines for anything not named Lincoln u can have it for a black dynamite vote.

Edit: lol Speed Racer is one of my favorites but its going to end up last place and eventually just not put on the polls anymore, isn't it? I swear it's legit fun!
