One of the stories that made me realize Stephen king doesnโt have the greatest track record when it comes to writing black folks.

I guess I don't have a problem with simplistic in general. LOTR was more subtle and never felt preachy to me. And the 'goodies' were still flawed and complex. This one kind of does seem preachy

2023-04-01 00:30:48 +0000 UTCI think you would enjoy a video by Schnee talking about the concept of "simplistic characters" which explains why Arcane is great AND Lord of the Rings is great even though the characters in LOTR are all basically "goodies" or "baddies" through and through. https://youtu.be/vzEmnroywsc The key point is, some stories are meant to exemplify the extremes while other stories are to explore complexity. 2023-04-01 00:17:52 +0000 UTCThis movie has always been a bit too cheesy for me. And a bit too simplistic when it comes to the characters. But I love Tom Hanks in it. He's my favorite part of the movie. This is also a Stephen King Adaptation, just like Shawshank Redemption and The Mist. All three of them directed by Frank Darabont.
