Sorry for my English, there is a theory within the fandom that says that the avatar retains or resembles the face of the previous avatar's lover, for example Roku's wife looks like Aang. Also Kuruk's couple looks like Kyoshi, and Kioshy's couple looks like Roku.

That is why Firelord Ozai and azula are so damn powerfull aswell. It's pretty sickening i know. But i just wanted you to know it was a forced upon marriage.
