Great bit of intuition on your part here Jimmy. The first time i saw this episode i didn't think twice about Toranaga's convo with Mariko about her father. It seemed to me like standard fare tv show dialogue about the past. Good on you to pick up that there was more behind that. And good on you to pick up that Toranaga is a "demon" when most up to this point would generally consider him a heroic figure.
