I dunno if you figured it this out by now, but when Anya mentioned the pool thing to Lloyd, that was her imagination of how that conversation would go. So instead she came up with a different excuse. The anime does not make it very clear though since it tries to trick viewers first into thinking its real. There's a few subtle hints that its not, but not very explicit.
