Art Process (Background!) - July '24 NSFW Continuum Exclusive
Added 2024-07-19 14:48:21 +0000 UTCSo for this first NSFW Continuum Exclusive, I thought I might try my hand at documenting the whole art process from start to finish.
Here's where it begins -- the idea and some research. In this case, the idea was "[my] take on a tropical island, palms and ocean waves" with our Ineffable Lads.
I usually open an initial canvas in Photoshop and use it as an idea board. I'll write notes to myself ("Coconuts!"), collect some images (of gorgeous beaches), make some color swatches, and start sketching out whatever suits my fancy. None of this will make it into the final piece, except maybe the color swatches --- this is just idea vomit.
The SECOND canvas I open, however, is the file I work in for the rest of the piece. I create two artboards, initially -- one to sketch a composition on (left), and one for references (right).
The references at this stage are pieces of art from other artists that I like. These won't hang around on the reference artboard for long, they're just there for the vibes while I noodle out a composition.
The next step is to start working out character poses and anatomy. See ya in a bit for that one.
