Lunar Iris

Hey everyone, Iris is a little late to Chinese New Year festival, but she finally made it!

Wanted to mix it up a bit with a more "traditional style" background and overall just wanted to have a little fun with the theme. As I mentioned before, I want to try her out on different themes, story universes and styles.

So this is the drawing of the month, and soon we'll have a preview of the pin-ups coming up!

Hope you guys like her!

Thanks! Had to try a few different styles of clothing that would fit the pose and composition but I'm really happy with how it turned out =D The dragon initially was intended to be reddish, but when I was switching between different layer modes, one of them uses the oposite color (which was cyan/blueish) and it was one of the "huh .... this actually looks better" moment. So it was a happy accident that I thought it gave a nice contrast with the warm tones, so it didn't have red all over the place =D And for the color of her robes, there was a 5 min back and forth between cyan/blue and red. Both looked really cool but in the end red was more fitting with the theme and composition.

Thanks! Had to make a few failed versions before setting on this one. Was saved by my gf suggestiong to make it going around the leg instead of just at the side of it =D

Lee

Thank you!

Lee

Thank you! Glad you liked her! I want to explore different themes with her and while a little late to the party, chinese new year celebration was a perfect fit right now. =D

Lee

Thanks! Silk is something that is always fun to work at. There are subtle thing that set it appart from regular clothing and it's always tricky to find that right spot. As for the background, I wanted to make something that would go well with her in the front, so I tried something different and I'm really happy with the result =D

Lee

Thank you!

Lee

I wonder what she looks like in a fantasy style! =D

Mine is Ox, so there's still a few years away! As for the theme, it was something that bothered me early in the image. I searched for a lot of chinese vestiments but they always have too much volume (aside from the really recent ones) and were all covered up. So in order to have the image that I wanted, I had to make a modified version of Han Qing dinasty where the upper part has very vibrant colors, long sleeves and looks very loose. But the "dress" underneath, instead of making a long dress that would cover her legs, I went for something shorter. This gives a better idea of what I initially had as reference. https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1YvL9PXXXXXXxXFXXq6xXFXXXJ/ancient-chinese-costume-women-folk-dance-qing-dynasty-tradition-wear-costumes-for-fan-fancy-dress-hanfu.jpg_640x640.jpg The dragon is the chinese version of dragons (I couldn't fit the hand holding the orb anywhere, so that is missing lol) simply because it's something that I liked and thought it would look cool lol. And I really couldn't think of a way to make a dog tattoo lol =D My gf suggested chinese bamboo in the background, but it didn't really fit the composition and there was a small issue with the color pallette so I went with cherry tree instead. I was aware that some of those choices might create a more ambiguous result in terms of being japanese or chinese, but they were intended choices in order to have the result that I wanted =D Hope this long explanation makes sense!

So amazing!

Beautiful work...like the tattoo!

I think she is doing rather well being dressed for the occasion. Great work on the dress is has a nice silky appearance to it. With all those folds in the fabric having to create so many light and shadow spots that sure is a lot of detailed work. Very impressive if I may say so. I am also very fond of the watercolor like background. Always nice to see something more traditional.

Iris looks great in an Eastern style too!

Oh, this gorgeous, I love the background with it's light colour tones, textures and different style to the grass, rocks and little stream of water. Iris herself looks sensational as always, her hair, skin and anatomy are beautifully rendered and textured, love all of her little freckles and the way you've defined her thighs, knees and calves with soft and hard edges. The dragon tattoo wrapping around her leg looks great, I especially like the purple and blue/green colours, stands out very nicely against her warm skin tones. The robe is what really blows my mind here though, the soft and shiny texture and feel of the material is amazing, as are all of those defined folds with their sharply contrasting light and dark tones. And to really top it off, there's all those patterns that run all over it, perfectly conforming to the shapes of the material. Brilliant work here, she looks beyond incredible! 😍😍😍

Hey it's my year ! The year of the dog, not the dragon :-) The theme looks more japanese than chinese but she is always a beauty.

Oh wow this is seriously fantastic , the theme is right on Point . With a few word of description, a wonderfull and original Beauty of yours is transformed just by theme into an even more beautifull Charakter ;)
