"Well, Hello sailor!"

And she's finished. Had a blast working on this one. Since there's not a lot of the body showing, I focused a lot more time on her face/chest which allowed me to detail a lot more than usual on this type of drawing =D

I also got to work on skin texture/wet etc (which is a lot more visible in the full version lol)

So I hope you guys like it!

After watching Pirates of the Caribbean i got mix feeling for this mermaid haha

Thanks! it was amazing to work on the details. Since the focus is completely on her face/torso, I wanted to make sure it was really rich in terms of detail. I also had to check a lot of images to make sure I got the transition of the water correctly, and the sinking boat looked like ... a sinking boat lol. There was a lot of elements in this image and I really liked working on them. And tbh my favourite thing from it are the details and the colors, since I love blue colors on images lol.

Yes, I wanted to make at least one mermay picture =). The tricky part was to balance the distribution of elements in the image. I wanted to make sure the boat looked like a sinking boat, so I checked a lot of references on how the water behaved inside it, compared to the more "wavy" water outside. And I also wanted to make sure the transparency of it was correct and that you could still see a few details inside. As for her skin, I learned a lot in the "peeking series" on how to make skin look wet, so it was a very similar process. I also always check a lot of references to make sure it looks realistic enough, so in this case, I had a dozen of images of girls getting out of pools lol. This kind of reference is great because I get to see where the water tend to drip, the wet hair on the arm. And I wanted her to have that "gold" sunbathed skin tone. All in all, it was a really cool process =)

Lee

Thanks! It was a lot of fun to work on them =D

Lee

thank you! I'm glad you liked it =D

Lee

yes it was something I wanted to make sure it happened. So I checked a lot of references of girls leaning on poolsides to make sure I got the angle of the hips/back arching correctly =D

Lee

There will be more in the coming months ;D

Lee

Thank you!

Iris is always fun to paint because the images come out really easy lol

My god I love this one, the details are amazing :o

Going with the whole mermay theme I assume. I'd say this was a pretty nice idea. I like that soft smile of your character. The feel of the image and the impression of the open sea is really nice. It sure does look like this boat is going nowhere, with all that water in it. I'm really impressed how realistic the water on the skin appears. At the same time the sun reflection on the water is amazing as well. Absolutely fantastic work with this piece.

Looks fantastic, love the rippling of the water and how it's darker overall closer to the foreground l, shifting to brighter in the back. The textures of Iris' tail look amazing, as do the details in the scales and the transitions from scales to skin at her waist as well as to the "fur" At the tip of the tail. The shine of her tail, how the curling tip casts a shadow onto itself and the hard edge running up the centre of the tail are great. The warm tones of her hair and skin stand out terrifically against all of the blue, particularly the sunlit sections of her body. The wet textures of her skin and hair are very well done and as superbly detailed as one would expect from your work 😄. Love the little touches like her shining bracelets and little segments in her long blue necklace. Her different coloured eyes shine beautifully, distinct against her skin, the freckles are adorable and goodness me, her lips look lovely too 😍. Brilliant work on this piece 😄, looking forward to this "full version" 😉
