Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 5

Season 1 Episode 5 : Part Five Shadow Warrior

Decided to post Episode 5 earlier just because! <3

After thinking about it further, maybe I like this episode more than I thought I would. Maybe. I need to sleep on it. πŸ€”

I agree with Thomas about the "live or die" choice, and Ahsoka's "trial" being facing HER own guilt over Anakin and the fear of ending up like him - "If I am ALL that you are..." 😲 My theory is that this is all happening in her mind - which doesn't mean it isn't real (see Dumbledore, lol) - or perhaps in some sort of force purgatory space in between life and death - maybe THAT is what the World between Worlds actually is (?) - In either case, what we saw is Ahsoka's idea of Anakin - not Anakin's ghost, or much less the actual Anakin... Is being a soldier all I am? Is fighting all I know? Is that all I have to teach to my Padawan?... I believe these are Ahsoka's questions... Choosing life means rejecting the darkness while answering NO to all those questions - BTW, in my head-canon I choose to believe Luke told Ahsoka about the "I will not fight you, father", lol We know Filoni is a BIG Tolkien fan, and there is A LOT of Tolkien in his stories - nothing more obvious than Ahsoka "the Gray" coming back from the dead and becoming Ahsoka "the White". Like Gandalf says: "I am Saruman. Or rather, Saruman as he should have been" (maybe replace Saruman's name for Anakin here, and yikes!)... This scares me, because Gandalf is back ONLY until he finishes the task that was assigned to him by the Valar (i.e. The Force) 😲 Also, notice Ahsoka telling Huyang using other words but in essence that "not all those who wander and wonder are lost" πŸ˜‰ and her last line to Hera is "I will bring them back (referring to Ezra and Sabine), I promise" as opposed to her previous obsession with just stopping Thrawn...

For better or worse, Star Wars isn't going to answer those types of questions; we still don't know what The Cave on Dagobah from Empire Strikes Back really is and that movie came out 43 years ago. This is especially true of Filoni, who believes, like Lucas, that the more mystical and mysterious the Force is the more interesting it is. (Lucas's one attempt to explain the Force, with Midochorlians, just made things even more complicated and messy.) However, that was the real Anakin (either spirit or a vision). The key to this is when Ahsoka tells him "I won't fight you" and Anakin answers "I've heard that before", referencing when Luke says "I won't fight you, father" in Return of the Jedi, something Ahsoka wouldn't know. His "Live or Die" lesson is both literal and metaphorical. In the literal sense, she needs to fight in order to not drown on Seatos. Metaphorically, Ahsoka has become so burdened by her past since finding out Vader was Anakin that she has stopped "living", she lives in fear, refusing to make connections with anyone (as evidenced by her fear of training Grogu in Mando and walking away from Sabine sometime before this show). Ahsoka fears that because her master turned to Vader, that everything she learned from him is dangerous and his legacy (which includes her) is only that of "Death and destruction" as Baylan told her, intentionally attacking her fears. Anakin forces her to confront her past and himself, and she throws aside the lightsaber, making peace with and choosing to move on from her past; to "live" once more. That's generally how I see it, but I will be interested in seeing others interpretation.
