Dragon Hoard - Boot Preview

Dropbox

Remember in my tutorial how I said it was important to do preview renders in order to test lighting and shadows? Well this is what happens when you don't do that... you render a whole scene in the shadows, unintentionally back-lit. I'll probably re-do it before the I finish the project.

Anyway, in the past, people have asked me to do shoes splitting open in 3D, and I objected because I thought it would be very hard. As it turns out, it IS very hard.

First I had to take my conforming clothing figure and export it to .obj format, open it up in Max, and turn it into a dynamic cloth mesh. (un?)fortunately, the artist who made these boots left the heel mesh disconnected from the top. That meant the bottom could stay as is, but the rest had to be "sewn" together.

Then I ran the sim halfway, exported again, and in Max, "unsewed" some of the heel and broke some of the seams on the back. Back in poser land, I ran a second sim with the more destroyed sim for the remaining frames.

And then somehow the woman's foot got dislodged from where it was during the sim, so I gotta figure out how to get it back in there, or re-run the sim. *sigh*

Oh ya, that's an interesting idea! I know I have had issues with trying to pose conforming clothing during animations, but I didn't think to use 2 copies

How I achieved this in the past. import the boots twice. For one set make all but the souls visible, and for the second set do the opposite.
