To answer your question about Odysseus not eating the island creatures, those were people in the odyssey. Bc they eat the lotus they are not quite all there so the language may have been hard to understand. The person doing the animatic drew them as little likeable creatures.

And to clarify some thing (without spoiling of course!): - To answer your question about if they used the "My name is Nobody" line in the Odyssey, yes they did that's actually where that whole bit comes from! Odysseus is known for being incredibly smart and knows it, and knows that names carry a lot of power so he intentionally doesn't give out his name until his arrogance takes over and then reveals it to Polyphemus.
