Proteus Colony: Reactor Nest [30x28]

THEME PACK: Proteus outpost

---

Hi everyone,

This Alien-inspired map can act as a challenge that needs to be crossed or as a boss fight location.

With this release, I'm introducing a small change to the rewards: The $2 Smuggler Tier used to include only spaceship deckplans but with the plans to start making themed releases, this is creates some constraints that are not very beneficial for anyone. Instead of only deckplans, Smuggler tier patrons will get basic map packs  of all new map releases (basic JPG map + one variant when available). This does not apply to maps released prior to March 2023.

More releases are coming today, and more news is coming soon about the new release model, and the pending Foundry VTT modules should be ready on Monday at the latest.

Thank you for your support, and have a nice weekend!

- Miska

Reactor Nest

The reactor room looms before you, a dark and ominous space filled with the hum of machinery and the faint echo of dripping water. A dim, eerie light filters through the haze, casting foreboding shadows across the cavernous chamber. The air is heavy with a palpable sense of dread.

Dominating the center of the room is a massive reactor cooling pillar, its imposing structure stretching 15 meters into the air. The metallic exterior glistens with condensation. A deep, seemingly bottomless chasm yawns beneath the walkway, splitting the chamber in two.

Suspended three meters above the floor, a raised walkway encircles the room, providing the only means to traverse the cooling chasm dividing the reactor room. This precarious path is also the only access point to the cooling system controls.

The floor of the reactor cooling chamber is a macabre tapestry of strange, twisted organic matter. A sickly, black ichor oozes from the organic matter, releasing a pungent, acrid odor that assaults your senses. Amidst the nightmarish landscape lie clusters of dormant leathery cocoons, their moist surfaces pulsating ever so slightly as if sensing your presence. The eggs are deceptively still, poised to unleash the terrors within at the slightest provocation.

Despite the room's immense size, it feels claustrophobic, the walls closing in with each step you take. The darkness itself seems alive as shadows shift and sway, playing tricks on your mind. You cannot shake the sensation of being watched, hunted by an unseen foe that can strike any moment.

As you tread carefully along the walkway, a soft skittering echoes in the distance, sending shivers down your spine. The infestation is pervasive, a silent, deadly force that has infiltrated every corner of this forsaken place. You must tread cautiously and rely on your wits to survive, for the reactor room has become a lair of nightmares, a crucible of terror from which few can hope to escape unscathed.

Possible events

  1. Cocoon Hatching: As the players traverse the walkway, one or more dormant cocoons suddenly begin to hatch, releasing a spider-like creature that scurries towards the party with alarming speed. They must act quickly to avoid being overwhelmed and succumbing to the creatures' lethal embrace.
  2. Walkway Collapse: A section of the raised walkway, weakened by corrosion and the weight of the strange organic matter, suddenly gives way beneath the players' feet. They must react swiftly to avoid plummeting into the dark chasm below or find an alternative route across the room.
  3. Cooling System Malfunction: The cooling system begins to malfunction, causing the temperature in the reactor room to rise rapidly. The players must reach the controls on the walkway and fix the issue before the reactor overheats and triggers a catastrophic explosion.
  4. Ambush: A fully-grown alien creature, camouflaged among the shadows and pipes, leaps out and attacks the players as they navigate the walkway. The players must defend themselves against this agile and deadly predator while maintaining balance on the narrow path.
  5. Acidic Leakage: As the players make their way through the room, they notice a pipe leaking a highly corrosive substance onto the walkway. They must find a way to bypass or repair the leak without coming into contact with the dangerous fluid, which could potentially eat through their equipment or cause severe injury.
  6. Power Outage: A sudden power outage plunges the room into darkness, leaving the players to navigate the treacherous walkway and locate the cooling system controls with only their personal light sources. In the impenetrable darkness, the xenomorphs become even more dangerous, their movements masked by the shadows as they stalk the players.
  7. The Infected Survivor: As the players navigate the reactor room, they come across a survivor trapped on a lower platform, pleading for help. The survivor, a member of the original research team, has been injured and appears to be barely clinging to life. However, as the players get closer, they notice signs that the survivor has been implanted with an alien parasite.
  8. Reactor Control Bypass: As the players reach the cooling system controls, they discover that the control panel has been sabotaged, presumably by someone or something that wanted the reactor to overheat and potentially destroy the entire facility. The players must work together to find replacement parts from other control consoles, bypass the damaged control panel, and restore the cooling system before it's too late.

Introducing the alien-infested reactor nest. Navigate the treacherous walkway suspended above a bottomless chasm while facing deadly alien creatures lurking in the shadows.

Comments

Aside from starship/space station-esque conent, especially MODULAR bits I can reuse and match in new ways, this is by far the type of content I most look forward to! Thank you, this is going to get a massive amount of use over the next year, some of which will be happening soon. Right behind this sort of map would be general use public and residential areas (shopping strips, ccity streets/back alleys, apartments, houses, etc). Thanks for keeping up the A tier quality work!

Jordan

Very nice and timely for future Alien fun
