Kiri la Kill - Chapter 6

As he was given the explanation, Kiri had been surprised at just how unsurprised he was, that a place like Honnouji Academy existed.

It should have sounded absurd to the extreme, an Academy filled to the brim with students wearing strange uniforms that gave them superpowers, with said students being powerful and influential enough that they could rule their own slice of Japan with an Iron Fist, and have a disproportionate amount of influence over what it didn’t?

Well some parts of it really did sound absurd… particularly the ‘running their own city with an iron fist’ bit, but the fact that he wasn’t surprised by even that portion told Kiri a lot. That he was able to stand there and take all of this in with a straight face made the Hardened Boy think his life may not have adhered to common sense all that much!

There was some outlying information that he’d learned too of course, things that stood out, but weren’t so immediately relevant.

He didn’t know why these people didn’t even know what Quirks were, though he could have made the connection to a much more worrying explanation of what could have happened… Kiri chose to focus on the bright side, the side that he could influence.

That mainly being that he finally had a concrete lead in the form of Honnouji Academy. A lead to help him return home, to rediscover his memories and who he had been, and to find out the person who’d done all of this to so that they couldn’t do it to anyone else.

So he swiftly bid the trio of students goodbye, promising that he wouldn’t forget them helping him out. He might have felt bad over leaving them alone like he had, but considering the potential vastness of the threats he were to face… he felt it was best to not get a trio of Quirkless kids involved.

Kamumaru had no doubt been relieved, his sister and (potential?) girlfriend was a lot more disappointed, which made Kiri felt like he’d dodged a bullet, especially with the one named Himiko, who kept shooting him looks he wasn’t sure about.

Regardless, with his much tidier look, Kiri was practically unrecognizable from his previously decrepit state, which meant that people were a lot less leery of his form. Something he used to its fullest potential, offering his considerable strength to the overseer of a construction site for a week… which a demonstration of it immediately had him hired.

Delaying his departure to earn himself some actual money would no doubt help in the long term. He really didn’t want to learn what would happen if he was to appear on the doorsteps of that much more strict and powerful Honnouji Academy, looking as if he had jumped off of a few more mountains.

His plan was perfectly simple, after all… Made underneath the crisp autumn air, as he practically did the hauling work of five men by his lonesome, humming and murmuring to himself as he went.

Get enough money to cover food and water plus any abrupt necessities, which working for a week in this construction site would provide. While in the meantime, he would be familiarizing himself with Honnouji Academy beyond the cursory explanation he had been given through the treasure trove of the internet.

After all of that was said and done, Kiri would then board a train, and make his way there… deciding just how he would approach that place along the way. Though he would like it to be a peaceful thing that gets resolved in an instant, some nagging feeling was telling him that it would not be that simple.

And Kiri had learned to trust his instincts for a reason.

Especially when they had often proven to be very right.

— — — — —

A bus tore through the mountain roads of Japan at top speeds.

Though… calling it a bus might be doing busses all around the world a massive disservice, considering that what was tearing through that road was a triple-decker behemoth that more resembled an apartment building.

It was a sleek black monstrosity that couldn’t even stay upright around as it turned this or that corner, tumbling about whenever it had to deal with one, and only managing to keep going due to the existence of additional wheels that covered every angle of the bus.

It was an abomination that shouldn’t and wouldn’t have ever been placed on a road… had it not been for the presence of an emblem that was displayed proudly on every available surface of its body… the symbol of Honnouji Academy emblazoned within a football, marking it as the property of the Honnouji Football Team.

Of course, one might think that even the weirdos and madmen who called Honnouji their home, would balk at traveling within such a deathtrap, and normally they would be right…

…Had it not been for the interior being weirdly unaffected by the chaos of the exterior, like the whole thing had been built as a massive hamster wheel that only cared for the feelings of the people who occupied the interior.

And speaking of the people who occupied the interior… “SETTLE THE FUCK DOWN YOU BUNCHA GOOD FOR NOTHING BENCHERS!” A lithe but muscular boy screamed from within, his voice cutting through all of the commotion in an instant.

“We have a change of plans!” The boy spoke, his easy use of his authority marking him as the Captain even if one somehow managed to ignore the two stars proudly emblazoned onto each of his sneakers. “A detour!”

“Aww, really?! But I was looking forward to being back!”

“My whole schedule is gonna go out of whack!”

“I’m not gonna get to dunk on those basketball nerds?!”

“I had a date!”

“SHUT IT!” The Captain roared again. “I don’t care about your excuses, these are orders straight from Sanageyama, and you bet your ass, if he’s saying this to us directly, that means it’s been approved by Lady Kiryuin!”

The complaints ceased instantly.

“We have a bit of an anomaly apparently.” The Captain said, nodding approvingly at his team’s easy compliance even as he brought a tablet to bear. “Some kid who appeared out of nowhere and caused some earthquakes.” He didn’t understand what the gibberish written on the tablet meant exactly, but orders were orders. “

“Looks strong!”

“All of us for one dude though?!”

“If Lady Kiryuin said so, it must be necessary.” The Captain cut across the chatter. “And they really do think this guy might be a problem. Because, if it comes down to it… we have been given full permission to sub in Red Card Jozu.”

A monstrous growl sounded from the bottom floor of the triple decker bus.

All of the occupants shuddered in dread.

Even the ‘Captain’.
