Blackpink Light Up The Sky Documentary

SO WOW  I didn't expect this to be so emotional.

First impression are that they work so hard, have very interesting backgrounds and are really cute (how?)

Also the Australian/New Zealander accents are lush.

Jisoo, and Jennie were in the highest heals, then Lisa in just regular high heels and Rosé in with no heels. It was to make them all the same height. Main is the #1 spot, Lead is #2. You still see Jennie being shy... getting the others to order for her etc. Lisa thinking anything from the 90's is Vintage... GRRRRR LoL. Not to mention, none of the stuff she is buying looks "vintage" it all looks NEW. Just looks like copies of the styles. Lisa beat out 3999 others in her audition. Rosé beat out 399 others in her audition. BamBam and Lisa have been friends for years, they were in a dance group in Thailand together(he was shorter than Lisa back then),We Zaa Cool. Coachella founder Paul Tollett reportedly traveled to South Korea to personally invite Blackpink to participate in the lineup. They were on the Billboards/Marquis, had 2 schedualed nights, there own stage and full set. BLACKPINK was the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella on the festival's 20th anniversary in 2019. The girls lit up the stage with their mind-blowing performances and a set-list that made thousands of partygoers jump with joy. I'm sure you probably know all this by now LoL keep up the good work

Ok but the fact that you said it looks like a dungeon in the bottom of the YG building...this is what we've been saying for years. It's crazy how you came to that conclusion on your own.

Qamra Muhammad

Same here. I specifically subscribed to Patreon for this particular reaction. Thank you for reacting. It feels nice, as though I'm watching BP doc with an intelligent and attentive friend.

He definitely seems like that. I like some of Dua's songs but don't follow here enough to be able to name them. Western collabs don't get me excited.

Yetti

Family/friendship bonds are a bit plus to me. I thinking starting early is fine but the attitude should be adjusted for their age. And let the room have a window COMMON

Yetti

it sounds very unnecessary

Yetti

One thing I'd suggest is to get into Blackpink House which is on their YT channel, it was a reality show that they had which shows you more of their personalities and how they are as a group. It was the show that made me fall in love with them.

MichMiLo

I'm glad these girls have each other and people they trust like Teddy and Maeng (their MUA) around them. I hope Jennie is happy like you said. She got so much hate for her 'lazy' performances when the reality was that she had an injured ankle. The amount of unnecessary hate all of these girls get is something else. Who knows when YG is planning their next group comeback but before that we have Lisa's solo to look forward to! Jisoo is also starring in her first drama as a lead actress (Snowdrop) which makes me emotional when I think of how she auditioned at YG as an actress. Thank you for your reaction! x

Freya

Anj Ramirez, yes you’re right. Don’t know why I mixed them up.

Stephanie

Im pretty sure it was Bom who had a scandal about illegal drug and not Dara :)

Anj

Teddy is the 5th member of Blackpink lol. The girls see him as their big brother, mentor and confidante. Clearly, you're not a fan of Lady Gaga haha, I like Sour Candy tho, but its too short. How about Dua Lipa? They have a song with her called Kiss and Make up.

Anj

I’ve watched up to your first pause break (42 min- just for my reference). I’ve casually followed BP since their debut, but I’ve never delved into their personalities. You really have a knack for finding groups with that family dynamic, don’t you? I agree that trainees shouldn’t be starting at 11. The system is too intense - the monthly grading, the constant criticism, the power imbalances. I’m always relieved when I hear stories of trainees who started later in life and had some type of typical teenage experience. YG didn’t treat their last girl group 2NE1 well. The old CEO referred to them as ugly girls several times at public events. Their career ended abruptly when a member (Bom) had a “scandal” over ADHD medications she was approved to take by her doctor in the United States. YG defended her, but also put the group on hiatus for two years. They were one of the biggest girl groups in the world at the time. In 2017 they were allowed one final single as a farewell. I see that some commenters have already brought up the concept of the YG Dungeon. 2NE1 were in the dungeon before the phrase existed. The members were still signed with YG, but were not allowed to continue their work as a group. To be clear, I’m not saying that YG is the only company that mistreats artists, but I think I’ve resisted becoming invested in BP because I know how particularly nasty the higher ups in this company can be. I’ll make another post when I’ve finished watching the rest. But I just wanted to say I really felt what you were feeling in that moment.

Stephanie

Bambam 8s my bias so I'm excited by the connection. So lovely that they are all family.

Yetti

I definitely want to see their cracked side.

Yetti

Teddy introducing them was sooo interesting

Yetti

It's actually so sad the amount of difficulties they have been getting

Yetti

Your right it's unclear what the exact reason for the delay is

Yetti

People Diss rosé voice, how? Its not perfect enough?

Yetti

Same

Yetti

Very crazy

Yetti

pls also check out their concert(the show, tokyo dome, coachella) as well:) i truly love their energy every time they're on stage

Kasidid K.

Thanks for the info. I want to see more of dancer Rose for sure

Yetti

Aww it's nice you can connect with them in that way

Yetti

They started with a bang 😀

Yetti

Thanks

Yetti

They are soo shoed by those experiences as trainees

Lisa and Bambam are best friends. They belonged to the same dance group when they were young. Until now, their friendship remains one of the strongest. It was funny you mentioned “dungeon”. That is how people describe them, “YG keeping them inside the dungeon”. TEDDY, their producer, is usually called the 5th member because if his involvement and relationship with the girls and their career and music. This documentary was very interesting because this was made during the time if the new and current YG CEO. The director, Caroline Suh, was instructed by the CEO to just let the girls talk and not push them for answers. That’s what made this so natural. They said what was comfortable for them and they gave honest answers as the director was able to earn their trust. This type of treatment wouldn’t have been possible with the old CEO as I think he would have controlled things a lot. The new CEO is a woman so I guess that also made an impact. Jisoo was called monkey by her relatives because if you will look at her siblings, they are visuals in their own right. Her older sister looks like an actress, and her older brother can pass for an idol. But both have normal and private lives. Both are married and have kids already. But of course they have no right to call Jisoo such word! What also is interesting with Blackpink is how close their families are also with each other. They became one big family. Lisa mom treats everybody like her own daughter. She even know what Rosé’s fave food and cooks it for her. Lisa once pranked Rosé’s mom into thinking she was talking to her daughter—it took a good minute before she realized it was Lisa on the phone. They call Lisa and Rosé’s mom as “mom”. Jennie goes to vacation with Jisoo’s family. Jennie and her mom went to Thailand for a vacation with Lisa and her mom. When Lisa’s mom is in Korea, she goes out with Jisoo and her mom. When Lisa cannot go home to Thailand for the holidays, she stays with Jisoo’s family. Lisa goes out with Rosé and her sister Alice (who is also as pretty as her and a lawyer). Lisa also joined Rosé and her family in NY for a vacation. They all went to Jisoo’s brother’s wedding together with their parents. They are a family. Thank you for looking into them. The reason why I even opened a Patreon acccount is to watch you and this particular reaction. Loves from the Philippines!

winterkrash

I love your insights and reaction to this documentary. This docu really showed more of the "personal" side of the Pinks (that's how blinks refer to them). It's great that you watched this as an introduction to Blackpink as a group. Don't worry, you are not the only one who got emotional seeing this. The docu showed how much Blackpink and kpop trainees/idols in general had to go through and the amount risks they had to take to achieve their dreams. So much respect for all of them. I loved how you notice that power balance when they showed some of their trainee clips, where you see men judging this young girls and basically holding their future in their hands. To answer some of your questions, yes, Coachella was their first performance in the US and outside of East and Southeast Asian region. That is why they were so nervous. As a fan, there is still some new things that I learned about them through this documentary. It's always nice to hear the reaction of people outside of the blinks fandom to this documentary so MASSIVE THANKS for reacting to them. A few suggestions if you want to get to know them more: 24/365 series on their official youtube account since it is the most recent. You can also check out Blackpink Diaries or even Blackpink House if you want. There are also some really good fan-made videos/compilation of Blackpink just being crackheads. You will get to see how much of a dork and crackheads they are and their group dynamics. You can also listen to their first full-album (THE ALBUM) if you want. A few have suggested the Tokyo Dome concert which is also great. You don't have to react to them, but just check it out to get to know more about these 4 talented ladies. Again, thank you for giving reacting to LUTS and for reacting to Blackpink!

Louis T

Do the Tokyo Dome too please..It's their concert in Japan in late 2019 and early 2020 with Jap version and it was really great..

Pippu

Great reaction! For a fan not much new information in the documentation (but fans are not the main target audience) and of course the documentation is part of the marketing for Blackpink. But it still strikes a good balance, allowing also some insight into their struggles and showcasing their personalities. Its the perfect introduction into Blackpink and even K-Pop as an industry. It manages to humanize the girls and combats the stereotype of K-Pop being an artificial manufactured product with no soul. Yeah its a business (and has its dark sides), but there are still people with lots of talent, hard work and passion for creating music involved. Love, that even Teddy gets his part and introduces the girls at the beginning in his own words.

The reason Jennie talked so much about her health issues is the insane amount of hate she got during her ankle injury I feel. She had a very serious ankle injury and had to start performing before it healed fully, she also suffers from motion sickness and wears patches (?) for that during performances. She still did her best but received a lot of criticism for her dancing during that period and she even apologized for that. I feel like all girls receive a lot of unnecessary hate like this but Jennie gets the worst of it usually. Lisa also received many xenophobic and racist attacks because she is Thai, her documentary Lalisa: Documentary Film goes into it a little bit. Bambam - who she is childhood friends with and still keeps in contact and calls one of her best friends - even had to make a statement defending her against racism, you can find that on Youtube I think. Honestly, all of the girls get so much unnecessary comments such as these, some people going as far as slut shaming or death threats when these girls do nothing but work incredibly hard. All of their work ethic is incredible, as I mentioned Jennie had to perform before she could recover from her very serious injury, Jisoo performed in Coachella with severe back pain and illness, Lisa had a shoulder injury in How You Like That era and recently revealed she was dealing with a knee injury during the tour, she also hasn't been able to go to Thailand and visit her family in two years and revealed that she lost her grandfather on her birthday and was devastated she could not go back home to say goodbye (she revealed it on the Chinese show I mentioned where she mentors while she was giving advice to a trainee who lost his father), Rosé had severe muscle cramps and had to get an IV during her solo era (revealed in her vlog on her own YT channel "Thank You For Loving -R-" that shows her preparation for her solo album.)

s

Other suggestions for live performances: Tokyo Dome (Ddu-ddu remix encore and Really are particularly my favorites), A-Nation Japan Kick It (and Kill This Love but you already reacted to a live performance of that), Pretty Savage in the James Corden Late Late Show, and their own online concert "The Show" (the James Corden performance is actually a part of that). You can react to that on Patreon not Youtube since you will get copyrighted on YT. Their cover songs are also always very good, they put their own spin on things and Lisa and Jennie write and add their own rap verses. Sure Thing by Miguel cover is my favorite. Rosé's cover of Eyes Closed by Halsey is also great (which is how Halsey noticed her and reached out to her actually and they became friends!). If you like dance performances Lisa has tons of those, she has her own Youtube channel where she posted 5 dance covers (Lilifilm 1-4 and Lilifilm The Movie). She was also a dance mentor for a Chinese survival show for 2 years where she has several dance stages - Lover and Intentions stage is my favorite.

s

Also fun fact: their training rooms were actually on the basement floor and Lisa has once referred to that period as "being stuck in the basement" so your dungeon analogy isn't far off at all haha

s

Great reaction! I really recommend Blackpink: Journey and Friendship on youtube, and also the girls' individual fanmade documentaries (they are named Lalisa - A Documentary Film, Jennie - A Documentary Film and so on) even if you don't do a reaction video please check them out. Them being fanmade shouldn't faze you because I guarantee they are VERY well edited and severa reactors have reacted to them. Because I feel like this documentary actually glosses over a lot of the hardships they go through - especially if you watch Blackpink: Journey and Friendship, you will see how hard they really worked and how their company is holding them back in many aspects. It's basically a well edited compilation of the girls talking about their journey and bond in vlives, vlogs, interviews etc. You will see the company is the reason for their long hiatuses for example and you will hear they are just as unhappy with those hiatus periods as we are. For example, Rosé has mentioned in her solo interviews (for her solo debut) that she wrote and recorded her song Gone almost 3 years ago and that she also has more songs ready to release. But it's up to YG when and how many songs they get to release, which is quite sad and limiting if you ask me. However as you can see, here it was painted as solely Rosé's own decision to delay her solo debut because she didn't feel ready, while I don't doubt she really had these fears I also feel like people should know their company is also a big part of these delays and hiatuses.

s

I think there was an error in the captions or Lisa just misspoke. She's the "main dancer" and "lead rapper". Yeah honestly same, I don't understand the point of distinguishing between main and lead either...but in the Kpop world, main usually means the best member at it, while lead is 2nd best.

vret2000

BLACKPINK gets VERY HUGE amounts of unnecessary hate every single day, mostly from toxic people or jealous fans of other groups. Lisa gets xenophobic comments even today, Jisoo gets hate for being a weak member talent-wise (I'm like what? Do we even know the same Jisoo?), Rosé gets flack for her voice (honestly haters are delusional), and Jennie gets the most hate for LITERALLY WHATEVER REASON. Everytime BLACKPINK releases something, the haters are always ready with their pitchforks and trying to sabotage their success. They get hate for stupid reasons, and I guarantee you if most other girl groups do the exact same thing, people wouldn't bat an eye, but if it's BLACKPINK they're ready to attack them. I know we have our faves but is it really justifiable to bring others down just to raise your faves up? I'm so grateful you finally got into these sweet talented queens. I hope you do more of their content, whether if it's their music, reality stuff, or even just fan videos. Even if BLACKPINK doesn't end up being your fave (or one of your faves), at least you know them now and why they are the world's biggest girl group right now. BLACKPINK in your area~ Happy to have you as a Blink (I'm assuming 😅).

vret2000

in fact we are very proud of them. they get undeserved hate very often, every member, and I hope they know their worth and how much we love them. Thanks for your reaction.

Айка Ахметова

Their bond is sooo incredible! There is no leader btw in BP, jisoo is just the unnie of the group and takes care of the other girls. They have a couple reality shows you could watch to get to know them more. I recommend watching 24/365 with BLACKPINK since its a reality show from last year so super recent.

hehe.nah

Yesss! Coachella was their first concert in America lol and then they continued the hype after by doing a north american tour. crazy right.

hehe.nah

Lisa is the lead rapper. Rose' the the lead dancer.

RosiePoop

Jisoo is the lead vocalist

RosiePoop

Jisoo the the visual of the group. Blackpink have no official group leader wich is unusual in the world of kpop.

RosiePoop

Rose' is the main vocalist Jennie is the main rapper Lisa is the main dancer.

RosiePoop

I can answer this question: "Main" vocalist is the best. "Lead" vocalist is next best. Same with rapping and dancing.

RosiePoop

I loved your reaction Yetti! I cried too when I first watched the documentary. Also you said you were confused about the whole Main vs Lead. Netflix might've translated wrong or maybe that's how Lisa said it but she's definitely the Main dancer. It goes Main>Lead>Sub Main being the best. Lead being second best etc. Jisoo: Visual, Lead Vocalist Jennie: Main Rapper, Lead Vocalist Rosé: Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer Lisa: Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Sub-Vocalist. At least that's how I've always seen their roles designated but all 4 of them can do it all if they could or wanted to. They got to show more versatility in The Album which is amazing. I loved learning that Rosé never really knew how to dance before and then she became the second best in the group. You should definitely check out Blackpink House then 24/365 after. You'll get more of their personalities there.

Julia Flores

Yeah they are super cute and their bond its super amazing, as someone who had to leave their home country and live alone as a teenager for studies i related so much to their stories, their work ethic really inspires me too

Carla aguirre

Coachella was their first US concert (hence why they were so nervous) and was the catalyst for their US tour, right after Coachella they played The Forum in LA which was their first US tour. The person who started Coachella actually flew to S. Korea to personally ask them to perform. So they had performed on GMA and Colbert by that point and on GMA was when they announced they would be performing at Coachella and having a US tour. So yes first full show, GMA and Cobert were really just to announce they would be performing at Coachella that year.

Poe's Poems Pwn Posers

i loved your reaction and cant wait for more

m

I was really hoping you check them outside of their performances because I remember you asking about are they like this in real life in the youtube reactions and they are the completely opposite. Hopefully, you react to more blackpink in the future. Also, from the documentary (only documentary I would ever watch), I got to see more of they were when they were trainees, which is something I was really interested in. Thanks for the reaction vid, I enjoy it

Aminata kante

for real, when she mention dungeon, I was like she pick up theses stuff so fast

Aminata kante

Also, for me DDDD coachella live is the best. But you should check the Tokyo dome performances. They're fire

Someone 1

i love this and tbh what you said about the "dungeon" is a private recurring joke within the fandom because since they don't release that much music and are not allowed to do many things, we say they're in the dungeon or the basement of the company 😬
