2021-09-21 23:40:43 +0000 UTCIn the original long comment I wrote for Yetti, I had similar thoughts on Onew. My take is that Jinki is naturally cute, awkward, and clumsy. I feel his brain works in a different way than most people (in this sense I find him similar to Taemin). So he plays up the positive cute aspects of his personality and downplays anything he sees as negative. Essentially, like you said he wanted to show a 24/7 “gracious and smiley” Onew. We know this obviously is not the case for any person, especially not the leader of a Kpop group who has to shoulder extra responsibilities. I also think back to an interview I read once where Leeteuk from Super Junior talked about the SM milk club, which was a support group for idols dealing with depression. Onew was named as a member of that group. I can definitely see a younger Jinki wanting to hide that.

2021-09-21 19:36:54 +0000 UTCThat was one of their managers went to UK with Minho. They watched football together. And Onew had a cody with him. I am not sure about the other boys, but I think Taemin should have a manager with him since he’s the youngest and he was about to do skydiving. I guessed ‘Onew’ was like a role model for Jinki to live for his work/fans even thought he was pretty ‘Onew’ enough already back in their early days. I felt Onew did intentionally hide the vulnerable, displeased or sometimes just the casual side of Jinki to show a 24/7 gracious and smiley Onew for us. That’s why it has always been great to see Onew being willing to reveal the true himself to us little by little. After years, I feel the boundary between Onew and Jinki has become very subtle and blurred already. Now I even feel ‘Jinki’ is the cuter, sweeter and softer one that we see more often these days, and Onew just represents the cooler and maturer side of him when he’s in some sexy and handsome photo shots/videos/stages. Idk if this counts but I feel they all had their dualities, it’s just because their career has last more than a decade that somehow they had changed in different ways with age. Like Key seemed to be pretty straightforward but was actually quite shy to express his sincere love/care/appreciation when he was younger, and Minho was the quietest one when they debuted but thank god SM gave him the permission to show real himself, the active and passionate Minho. And Jonghyun was the bubbliest but we gradually realized he was also the most sentimental one. That’s just a part of how I feel, and it is interesting and delightful to watch you discovering them more and sharing your thoughts with us. Loving your continuing journey❤️
