NCT Sticker Album Review

Seriously girl are you a kpop journalist? There's so much detail in this. And it was really interesting to read. 😅 @na na na. I understand them but at that point I'm hearing only a lil from amazing singers, I would rather hear then sing that fill the time 🤣🤣

Okay I took notes so I didn’t write a comment for every song. Lemonade: I feel like this year a lot of SM artists went off on the haters. Taemin’s Advice immediately came to mind as a reference point. The criticisms he receives are different than NCT, but the core “advice” is the same - be more mainstream, i know what’s best for you as an artist, etc. The contrast in how the two respond is also really interesting - Taemin talks about the advice being “floppy” and how he closes his eyes so he doesn’t have to cover his ears. He talks about how the criticism has gotten the better of him before, but he’s learned to be resilient. It reminds me of someone who buried their feelings really deeply and finally exploded. Whereas with NCT 127 they tell the haters that they enjoy the criticism, it sustains them, they drown it out, etc. And that really suits a group with their vibe. My other thoughts are that I really agree on the vocal rap harmonies, especially when Doyoung and Jungwoo were working together and also their individual work with Mark. My last thought is that there are several members who could win the best pronunciation award, but Lemonade affirms my personal opinion that Taeyong is the best. I don’t know where he gets his ideas from. I also wish I understood more Korean pronunciations because i have no doubt that all of the members play around with those words. It feels more pronounced on English lyrics and because they are the only ones I understand. Breakfast- I didn’t write much for this one, so I think I can understand where Yetti is coming from. I don’t know if you mean overly polished when you speak about the production, but I agree that it sound like something SHINee could put out. Of course SHINee is also an experimental SM group, but they’re known for being polished. Focus: Yetti, I think it’s okay that you didn’t really focus on Jungwoo before this comeback because I think he is the undeniable star of the Sticker era. I’ve watched a few behind the scenes clips of his older recordings like Boss and the difference is night and day. It’s definitely a byproduct if experience and growing as an artist within a supportive group. It’s really hard to pick a favourite vocalist in NCT as a whole. I’m leaning Ten these days, but Haechan is up there. For me Haechan is the Onew of the group because his vocal tone is so distinct. When you hear Onew sing you immediately know it’s him and you can always pick him out in a mix. It’s the same with Haechan. I’ve heard how much Onew’s voice has grown since debut, so imagine what we’ll be hearing from Haechan in the future! The Rainy Night: This is probably my favourite album track or at the very least it’s tied with Promise You. I really enjoy chill vibey music and I even put this song on my chill Spotify playlist. The lyrics remind me a lot of how all of NCT plays with time and dreams in their concepts. Some examples that come to mind are The Seventh Sense, YESTODAY, and Dream in a Dream Far: I’m sorry Yetti, but I’m team Ade with the Na Nas. I suppose it’s been a long time, but you have heard them on another song with Na Nas - Cherry Bomb! Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na is one of the biggest hooks on that song! As for Taeil and his high notes… someone stop this man. Out of all the main vocalists in 127, I think Taeil does high notes the best (yes even better than Haechan). I’m truly uncertain who has a higher upper register between the two. They both have the piercing quality down, but because Haechan is always piercing through with his unique tone, maybe I appreciate hearing them more from Taeil. Can’t wait for Part 2! I’m ready for Ade to open up her second session of NCT 127 education.

Sticker: The flute slash picolo slash broken recorder music theory class was such a fun time 💚 It seems like I’m in the minority, but I loved that sound the first time I heard it. I love the Pied Piper theory from Yetti because that was my experience. Also thank you for the end discussion about fans saying what NCT should’ve done/it’s not their sound, etc. I’m still a baby NCTzen, but even I know that NCT’s sound is “New.” If you’ve been a fan of the group for several years and you don’t get that…. I don’t know what to say. I’ve been listening to their old albums after Ade recommended some B-Sides and from the ones I’ve heard there really isn’t a genre. For example, I never would’ve thought that City 127, Knock On, and She No Longer Needs Me would come from the same group that released Kick It and Sticker.

Yay- Ade shouted you out to in the post sticker chat :)

I’ve been waiting for this one!
