I always knew I wanted to make a cartoon in retro fashion from the beginning. I love it when you watch old cartoons and you see the character face appeared in the title, preparing you what to expect and waht you're about to watch.

For example, this cursed rodent and his silly cartoon <3

It's just a still picture and a couple of cards before the feature. Simple and effective!

Time to steal the idea!

These are a temporary sketches you see in the beginnign of the shorts. The first one will be traditional character face with flowing fanfare poster-ish BG.

Voilà! ✨

Next is to do the other cards. The plan was to use the same BG with text and stuff.

But....

EWWW!

This looks too commercial. Remind me of those YouTubePoop for kids, you know, those toxic cartoons from the dark side of YouTube. Very uninspiring.

I spent another day try to come up with something that more true to the classic feeling of old cartoons I wanted and the theme of illustrations that goes well together.

Hank is living in the forest so it must be something foresty, woodendy kind of things. I also happen to love the wood crafted you see in the relic chair and furnitures. One reference came to my mind is the title card for Pinocchio (1940)

Now that's what I looking for! The wooden texture, the whimsical feel and the beautful texts!

Looks like those old Hallmark tv drama back in the day and I love it <3

To the last title card!

I used the same wooden template so you won't feel dizzy when the next title card slowly appeared one after another.

What's left are the music that Joshua is making atm. Followed by the sfx and the end credits. Then this cartoon will be done! WOOHOO!
