It was kind of a thing where Sonic was briefly paired with nearly every girl in the regular cast, then one by one they all found different relationships ending with Sonic staying single and Tails resenting him for pursuing Fiona (funnily enough his thing with her lasted the longest, ending only when she hooked up with Scourge.) Sally even played the part of "resentful bitch" briefly by having him go on a mission with Amy, Bunnie, and Fiona after he was seen making out with all of them...only for it to not be relevant since it was actually Evil Sonic that did it and Sonic never even knew has his alternate self had basically layed pipe across half the village in his name...
