Hey guys, just wanted to fill y'all in on what happened with Seed.
For some reason when I made the video public yesterday, it seems as though YouTube didn't push it out into its algorithm / subscriber feeds the same way it always does with my videos, and so as the day continued, I realized more and more just how messed up the viewcount was going to be. At the end of the day, it only had 70k views - even Night of the Living Dead had over 100k, and I believe Bride the week before was at 200k.
If I had left that upload stand, Seed would have remained the lowest-viewed Kill Count forever, and would probably always be a couple hundred thousands views behind all the other videos, which I didn't want. So I made the call to delete the video last night and reupload it this morning. It's out now. I'm still not sure if that was the right thing to do but I'm hoping it was.
As far as why it happened, I don't know for sure since YouTube is so opaque about its policies. My guess is this: All my videos get the yellow dollar sign (limited ads) as soon as I upload them. I appeal all of them, and most of them get approved for full uploads (green dollar sign) although some of them get rejected and remain limited (yellow). I uploaded Seed so early I was able to appeal Wednesday night, hoping to get approved for full ads before the video went public on Friday.
Instead, it got rejected, so by time I made it public, it had already been confirmed limited ads. Nobody knows if having confirmed limited ads affects your video's standing in the algorithm but that's the only reason I could see why things went so horribly wrong yesterday. So, needless to say, I won't be appealing a video's monetization before it goes public - which is REALLY DUMB since ideally it would have full ads when it first goes public to gain me the most revenue.
This whole situation is so stupid, lol.
Thanks for your patience! Please watch it even if you already saw it yesterday!
