look how beautiful this WIP is! this is a screenshot work in progress pic from my commisioner artist... do you like it???????????????? i have this theory which i think i covered on stream before. (which is basically me coping over the amount of money i spent on this commision) BUT ANYWAYS :D
my theory: the first thing most new viewers will do (if they haven't left already because of an ad) they'll scroll down and read the about bio, and panels! the reason why i went for such beautiful panel art is because what if a new twitch viewer comes and are forced to watch an ad?? what are they supposed to do??? hopefully if they scroll down and see pretty art, they'll admire it and be inclined to read...! which makes them stay longer! and by the time they're done reading and looking at pretty art (they'd probably want to hear my voice) and the ad is done!!!!
another thing is: TWITCH PANELS IS WHAT SELLS YOU TO NEW VIEWERS. if someone new stumbles upon my stream, they aren't going to have much context of who i am and what type of person i am. most new people will scroll down to get some more information about the creator they're watching. and this panel artist makes incredibly personalized twitch panels which i think is 10000% needed as a streamer!!!!! so even if someone didn't want to read a lot of words, that's fine! by simply taking a glance at the art panels, someone can already get a basic idea of what kind of streamer i am. (art can go a long way, and can help people get an idea without having to read a single word)
vtubing is incredibly art-focused. i believe that BRANDING is incredibly important for a vtuber! i want to advertise my brand as much as possible to tell people "this is who i am, and this is the type of stuff you'll see from me" so if i put comfy camping and outdoor elements in my branding, people will have a general idea about who Rye is by just taking a glance. having a brand is intriguing and interesting to people passing by. if i just had green hair, and regular daily clothing, that isn't really advertising who i am!! but if you add bunny ears, a fun silly hat, and little trinkets and doohikeys, that adds a bit more personaliztion to the character and THEN people are going to ask themselves, "i bet this kind of vtuber likes x and y!" or "this aesthetic is something i can totally vibe with!" and would be more inclined to watch!
i took 3 years of graphic design in highscool so i'm all about the branding aspect of things :3 there are a lot of things on my model design that can be marketable, and not only marketable, but unique to RYE! take your favorite vtuber design for example, and pull things from that model that could be marketable as a sticker/plushy/article of clothing/pin, etc.
for EXAMPLE: guras model
i can name a few things on the top of my head about her model that makes it great. her hair pins, the shark teeth motif, the little fish skeleton, her tail+stitches, her trident.. already make excellent ideas for ORIGINAL and UNIQUE merch!
I LOVE BRANDING. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. oh, a letter "M" that is red and curved? MCDONALDS. oh, a silhouette of an apple with a bite in it? APPLE. OH, A LADY WITH A CROWN BEHIND A GREEN CRICLE?? STARBUCKSSSS
in my opinion, a character design that can be very marketable and stay unique/original, is HUGE. that character design is likely very STRONG and recognizable, and can plant a seed in someones mind, because it's a unique design that could become memorable. if that makes sense..!
that was a lot of text, but yeah, i yapped! if you're still here, thanks for reading!!!! feel free to comment anything you want to add or share with the class!!!!! (also yes this wip art also shows a bit of spoiler for my new model design!)
