Tome Two WIP

First peek at what I've been working on. Only screengrab I have so far that isn't a spoiler in some way; just Maeryll being a hound, which is no surprise. Coming along great, excited for September :)

Incidentally, I just booked a two-month trip to Japan this winter! I think I'll write a novel.

Actually June is the worst, it rains a ton and is even more humid.

thought about it! I have a tutor here and a japanese friend who helps me, hoping I can have a pretty good framework by then so I can just learn through exposure.

Currently in Japan now during a brutal heatwave; smart move to come during the winter! If you're interested in immersion, have you considered signing up for language classes in Japan? If you're looking for something low commitment I recommend finding a volunteer teacher. Very cheap individual lessons and they can give you some structure!

sigh even the food at 7/11 is fucking delicious

Haha that's almost exactly my plan! Stay in Kyoto but travel to Hiroshima, Nara, Kobe and maybe Osaka. Good to know. I can't believe you just ate rice bowls Japan has the best food I've ever had everywhere! I just spend my trips in coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Been learning the language here and there so part of the intent for the trip is immersion. I find it extremely easy to retain, just need to find a tutor in my town to give me some structure. Don't even know what Discord does, so no!

Where to start … well, Kyoto has Fukushimi Inari Taisha, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, the Kyoto International Manga Museum, and tons of shrines and temples … with 2 months, that’s plenty of time to visit far more than just Kyoto … Osaka is only like an hour away from Kyoto by train, and Osaka has Dotonbori, Tennoji, Den-Den Town, USJ, and an aquarium … Nara is close by too, and has tons of huge, beautiful temples and shrines, plus you can feed and pet the deer … Kobe is worth a visit, if only to try the beef in the prefecture it hails from … Himeji is beautiful, especially when lit up at night, and the grounds are amazing … if you can, take the train, or a bus, all the way down to Hiroshima, the city is wonderful, the memorials are touching, and the miyajima shrine and island is just offshore, which has the largest tori gate like ever, and more deer for you to pet … I’ll take a look tomorrow, I think there’s a way to collate all my google maps stars into a list you can import that has a plethora of spots that I visited while I was there … oh, you’re going to love it! Not a big foodie, so no good restaurants really, I mostly survived on Nakua gyu-don rice bowls for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while traveling Japan on vacation during the breaks in the Japanese school year, since otherwise I was teaching up in Sapporo. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Though having already been to Tokyo, I guess you’ve already got the surviving in Japan part down, which is the often the hardest step. Is there a discord server for I Roved Out? Or just for yourself? I just know many webcomics and artists do, and if you did have more questions or wanted more suggestions, it might be a better format than comment threads … just a query I thought I’d put out there … But Japan in amazing! I’m so jealous. After 2.5 years teaching there, I loved working with the kids, but I knew I didn’t really want to teach for the rest of my life, and the bureaucracy in my school was spiraling downward fast, so I came back to the States … went to some conventions, traveled out west, did a lot of camping and hiking, then started job hunting … to no avail at present, which is not helpful in saving money towards traveling back to Japan myself …

any fav spots? I spent a month in Tokyo last year, I'm going to stay in & around Kyoto this time.

Japan is wonderful, especially in winter. I lived there for over 2 years, it was amazing! So jealous, it's going to be a while before I get a chance to go back ...

DresdenQ

spent September in Tokyo last year and it was the hottest most humid place I've ever been, hard to imagine it in the dead of July.
