Tome One remastered!

Hello everybody! This week I've done something that's been due for a while--hundreds of small revisions and some big redraws to Tome One, and they're all up on the site! The updated extended PDF is also for sale on gumroad. There's three whole new pages in there.

Took me six days! It happened kind of suddenly... I was working on Tome Three and the latest drawings are so good they were really throwing into grisly contrast some of those super early panels that would make me shudder when I looked back... No disrespect to my earlier self but now that I've brought the more egregious early panels into line I feel much better about the work as a whole--feels like the comic has a much sturdier foundation now, one I can proudly work from (and comfortably forget about) until the end of this very long story.

Most of the big redraws are right at the very beginning, when I was just starting out. I can't believe the way I used to work, those old PSDs were total clusterfucks! I'm pretty workmanlike about my art in general so it's not like I HATE the old stuff or anything; it's the best I could do at the time, and obviously people liked it enough to read it which is good enough for me. In fact I was surprised at how much of it holds up... and even has some qualities that my newer pieces don't, like some pretty wild gemstone colour palettes.

As I work on the new books I'll sometimes go back and fix little things from recent chapters that bother me, but I don't expect I'll have to do a big revamp like this again; while I'll certainly continue improving and changing in style, the difference in art between some of the Tome One stuff and the rest was just too vast. To put it another way, the worst of Tome Two could still hang with Tome Three but the worst of Tome One was pure WTF.

Anyway check it out! I hope the comic feels tighter and stronger. It's a sweet time to catch up because Tome Two goes for sale on WEDNESDAY the 29th!

Now I own it!

I'm not sure I have that much to say... in the majority of cases it was just going over wonky anatomy or messy lighting, improving background/foreground separation, refining details. The biggest redraws are the first couple pages of Book One proper, and I think you can see pretty clearly how the new panels are much more fluid, legible and full of action in comparison to the originals which are quite stiff and have lots of wasted space... storywise the new pages also do a better job of visually setting up the characters. There's also a story I added here: https://irovedout.com/comic/p-17/ which I always felt was a missed opportunity for some setting work. Overall I was surprised at how little work most of the drawings took to get up to snuff, I thought I'd be doing a lot more full redraws.

Hey! I know you said you won't go over all the changes, and I get that. But! I personally would find it pretty interesting if you picked just one panel or page and did a bit of a director's commentary on it. Some of the changes look a bit different to me, but nothing I'd call WTF. It would be interesting to see the bad art through your eyes.

Deal. You get $20, I get some Tomes. Win-win!

Thank you for all your effort.

Sounds like some sort of pornographic 'wheres waldo'

Same here, T1 is good, T2 is even better, looking forward to T3.

I really like the changes to chapter 1. In the original, Cinder looking out the window on page 3 always seemed a little wonky to me. Also, the flow of actions from one panel to panel is improved in the remastered.

well no, it was printed 2 years ago

Will there be a revamping of the physical book? I'm considering getting that one.

Mecca

yep. You can still use the COVID69 offer code to get 50% off though.

Bought ✔️ I already have the old version, but who can say no to a new edition? After all, the two girls have great tits ... um, I meant great personality!! (lol)

Antje

I bought both Tomes on Gumroad a few weeks ago, but when I try to access Tome 1 it gives me the "Original Product Listing", which is not remastered. Do I have to buy it again to get the new version?

Wondering if there are new pages comparing the old tome one pdf/kickstarter vs the remastered, or if they're all up on the site? Thanks, can't wait for the chapters.

yep that's life!

Alexis Flower

no way, you just gotta read it through again!

Alexis Flower

Well... time for a re read I guess!

Could you point us to what you've changed? I have no complaints about tome one, but I'd be interested in seeing what you felt needed fixing.

Fester's Lampshade

FWIW, I've no complaints about anything in Tome 1. Also I kind of enjoy watching the evolution of an artist's style and skill over the course of a comic, especially ones that started on the web. It's part of the journey you go on as a fan.
