Character Ask Game (With Kree and Clara) Part 3

These questions are from a post by @grumpy-triceratops on tumblr called 🌸My Super Long Hopefully Fun Character Ask Game.

There are six different sections of questions including this one, and over time I'll answer them all!
For reference:
🌿 = Clara
🪶 = Kree

🍽️Food and Drink

1. What flavor would your character say their personality is?

🌿: Clara would probably say she’s a mild tea, like chamomile.

🪶: Kree would say he’s like toast with cheese and jam on it.

2. Would your character prefer baking, cooking or mixing drinks?

🌿: Clara definitely prefers cooking. Baking is quite enjoyable as well, but sometimes she forgets to keep time and her baked goods come out burnt.

🪶: Although he’s not particularly fond of alcohol, Kree would want to stay away from the fire of an oven or cooking fireplace so he’d say mixing drinks.

3. Is there a food or drink your character is unwilling to try?

🌿: Clara would be hesitant to eat the meat of magical, domesticated livestock. Both because magia tends to make humans sick, especially northerners like Clara who are not exposed to it often, and because she thinks magical creatures are incredibly cool/interesting. It’d be like a dog person having to eat dog meat.

🪶: I’ve never thought of this before…but I think Kree would be weirded out by shellfish! I also think he really dislikes vinegar/picked stuff.

4. How big is your character's appetite?

🌿: About normal, but Clara has a tendency to forget to eat when she’s really into doing something like dying yarn, foraging, tending the garden, or reading.

🪶: Kree is constantly, always hungry. Not in a starving way, but like a teenage boy who empties out the fridge everyday. 

5. Does your character consider eating fun?

🌿: Clara enjoys food, but she grew up pretty poor and they couldn’t afford extravagant meals. She tries to make yummy food from her garden, but it matters more to her that it’s hearty and healthy.

🪶: Absofuckinlutely. It’s the meaning of life.

6. Would your character eat or drink something they didn't like to appease someone?

🌿: Yup. She’s a bit of a doormat and would do almost anything to make sure someone else doesn’t perceive her as rude.

🪶: Kree will always accept a gift, but whether or not he uses or consumes the gift is a different story.

7. Is there food that has made your character sick?

🌿: Magical plants and animals. Humans are inherently non magical and therefore do not have the biology to properly consume items with a lot of magia in it. Even dead magia makes them either throw up or have it come out the other end.

🪶: It’s not so much that it makes him sick, but if Kree eats too much non-magical food and not enough magical meat/plants he gets pretty malnourished. Otherwise Kree can eat almost anything without it making his tummy hurt.

8. What is your character's favorite food group?

🌿: Fruits! Especially wild/in season berries, but she also loves apples, pears, and plums.

🪶: Protein foods, but specifically meat.

9. Does your character like to try new foods?

🌿: She doesn’t often eat new food, but is always willing to give something new a shot. Though, if she’s at a new restaurant she’ll likely stick with something she knows she likes so that the trip wasn’t a waste of money.

🪶: Very much! Especially the new human foods that Clara shares with him. He’s still not a huge fan of dried meat, but he loves bread and jam.

10. What is a childhood meal your character cherishes?

🌿: There’s a winter stew that her grandmother used to make that warms her up inside and out. She tends to make it whenever the butcher comes by a rabbit or two.

🪶: It may seem odd, but Kree sometimes misses when he used to be fed pre-chewed food from his parents, and was especially happy when his mom would do it since she was out of the nest often.

11. Is your character food motivated?

🌿: No, not particularly. But she’ll obviously work hard in order not to starve.

🪶: Yup! Kree definitely goes out of his way to make sure he eats something delicious everyday.

12. Which mealtime is your character's favorite?

🌿: Lunch! It’s a nice break in the middle of the day. She enjoys drinking afternoon tea as well.

🪶: Harpies don’t have set mealtimes since they hunt/forage and what they get is dependent on if they’re successful. But Kree’s favorite meal tends to be the first one he’s able to eat, so I think breakfast suffices.

13. How much does your character care about wasting food?

🌿: It matters a lot to her. She and her aunt are not well off, so every bit counts. Every scrap is either used, composted, or fed to the chickens.

🪶: Kree tries to not over forage or over hunt since doing so disrupts the forest’s ecosystem. When he hunts, he tries to take down small/medium game that he can eat entirely in one sitting. Magia dies and is no longer beneficial to him if the meat is no longer fresh, so he can’t really preserve it to eat later. If there ever is too much, he makes sure another creature will eat the rest.

14. Does your character prefer restaurant food or home cooked food?

🌿: Home cooked, even though it takes more effort, Clara is comforted by what she knows and can experiment/ make food to her taste.

🪶: Kree really enjoys eating Clara’s cooking, but he cannot eat it all the time. Even so, I think hunting himself would count as home cooked. The thrill of the hunt add a lot to the meal too.

15. What food or drink does your character consider a treat?

🌿: Honey cakes! Clara and her Aunt cannot afford sugar, so Clara is very fond of using honey to sweeten her baked goods.

🪶: Before he met Clara, Kree was always a fiend for berries, but now he’s a bread boy through and through.

16. Is there a food texture your character doesn't like?

🌿: Gelatin…its just…not for her.

🪶: Although harpies can eat bones as well as meat, Kree is personally not a big fan of swallowing bone shards. He likes gnawing on them though!

17. What kind of drinks does your character prefer?

🌿: Tea, especially herbal ones that she dries and makes herself.

🪶: Human drinks are not as delicious to Kree as human food is. They tend to be bitter. He may like juice, but he will always prefer plain water.
