Creature Feature: The Fae, Loretober Day Three

The Fae are a group of northern magical creatures that are small in size, have humanoid/ bipedal bodies, and have the ability to hibernate in a frozen-like state during the winter.
(Please note that these concepts are not finalized designs/summaries but early imaginings that may change in the future!)

Members of the Fae include:

Gnomes: Ranging from 2 to 3 inches tall as an adult, both sexes have hairy bodies, are bearded, and wear felted hats. Hats worn within their burrows are short and usually colorful, while outside hats are brown/green toned and significantly taller in order to camouflage with grass and signal to other gnomes their location from afar. They live hidden away in solitude and only mate every few years when male gnomes go on a long journey to find and woo a willing female, with whom they mate, leave a reverse dowry (resources for the female and future child), then return home. Humans don't often see gnomes due to their seclusive nature, but some swear that as soon as their garden starts doing well, gnomes are sure to be caught now and then in their periphery.

Fairies: Other than their colorful wings, pointy ears, and floral-eque genitalia, fairies look very similar to beautiful human beings. These little creatures hatch from eggs within flowers and, once old enough, form a chrysalis and emerge as an adult fairy. As adults they are set free on the world to explore and mate, leaving behind eggs for local elders to raise.
Humans of the Hearth faith (who are prejudiced against magical things) tend to be put off by fairies because of their uncanny resemblance to humans, but young children tend to love them and sometimes try to capture them on summer nights when fairies have consumed enough magia to begin glowing.

Pixies: Insect-like and defensive of their "castles", pixies live inside large hollow trees near lush, green environments. Similar to bees, they have a queen, bred to be the largest pixie among them. It is her job to lay eggs and grow their colony. Warrior pixies (typically female) have large wings and bodies and protect the castle/ queen from threats. Worker pixies are much smaller and are in charge of finding/storing food, constructing the castle, and taking care of children. Worker pixies are typically harmless, but warrior pixies are aggressive to anyone outside their colony including fairies who often stumble into their territories. Some queens, however, will prevent the execution of a trespassing fairy and keep one or two in her hive for company and entertainment.
Because pixie venom has the ability to kill a human in large enough amounts, humans stay far away from pixie castles and quickly destroy any found near human settlements.

Brownies: Rodent-like creatures that tend to make their homes under floorboards or in walls, Brownies are the most "human-positive" of the fae, moving between human settlements and journeying, unnoticed, in travel carts. Opportunistic and mischievous, these creatures tend to give humans a lot of strife by raiding their pantries, but often they'll leave little things behind such as lost buttons or shiny pennies.
Seen as a pest and potential carrier of disease, many humans will buy a house cat in hopes of getting rid of or deterring the creatures. The success rate of this method varies and heavily depends on if the cat is easily bribed with snacks.

Bonus!
Elves: Evasive and mysterious, most humans say they've never seen one, but know someone who claims they have. Although not technically part of the Fae group because of their larger size, Elves are often lumped in with the others as "magical creatures that look too similar to humans". Thought to live atop rocky hills and within caves, some say elves are no bigger than children and are ugly, while others say they are tall and ethereal. The most common features elves have in stories are their long, pointed ears and ability to seemingly disappear out of thin air like a ghost. Many humans staunchly believe they are real and can whisk away people into their realm, while others believe it all to be hogwash. Either way, elves are often used in spooky stories told to children, discouraging them from running off too far or exploring dark caves.

It's hard to decide which I love more, anthro rat brownies or flat-chested fairies who don't shave.

Scribble Mama

What’s with the “.ai” at the end of the brownies section?
