Project Exodus terram: ready for lift-off!

AdvJam21 has started on 7th May and I’m happy to take part. Within 14 days I’ll give my best to let Exodus terram take shape.

That’s the log line so far.
Don’t worry, the apocalyptic setting is just one aspect of it. There are plenty of other ingredients thrown in for good measure. Like rockets, romance, dogs, drama and a crunchy armadillo.
To get back into the protagonists mind-set I didn’t spare any troubles or expenses.

Something visual
The first few days I spent practising to draw with my graphic tablet again. It’s actually been years since I last did this. If you’re curious, I’m using a HUION H1060P which costs only a fraction of a Wacom tablet and I’m impressed with the quality. This is perfect for me.
For the art I’m currently using Rebelle 3 (https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle) for the natural painting style and Aseprite (https://www.aseprite.org) for pixel art which both are amazing.

So without further ado let me introduce our protagonist, the retro-futuristic computer engineer Oswald Isaak.

Yes, the cute kid is also him.

Planning

A strong focus for this project is the narrative. Earlier this year I already started plotting for the project. I took a similar approach as I do for any writing project for my planning document.
In the first stage, I write down everything I already know about the story. I do this in different levels of detail in different sections of the document.
In the plotting section I focus on the plot alone, while in other sections I describe environments, characters and even write down early scenes.
For this there is the excellent yWriter (http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter.html) to help with organising chapters, scenes, characters, locations and even items. I’ve used it for years for my novels and it’s actually on the list of recommended tools of the Adventure Jam.
