Mistake (2021)

I was such a fool to have tried my invention without telling anyone what I was working on. It had become something of an obsession of mine to make the matter reduction ray work. Nearly two hours ago, I made the final adjustments to the machine and powered it up. I had not expected the power surge that set the machine off.   

After the flash of light had faded, I found myself in a world larger than it should have been. “Oh shit,” I uttered, realizing that I was in big trouble.   

The only other person who could help me was my roommate, and I’d chastised him on more than one occasion for entering my lab space, so I knew he wouldn’t be joining me here. But I could still hear the television running down at the end of the hall.   

It took me nearly two hours to travel under the door to the room, and then down the enormous passage of a hallway that appeared more like an immense cavern than a walkway between rooms. Bits of debris and dust larger than my body helped me realize how small I’d become. Or at least I thought it had.   

I could see my roommate in the distance as he stood from the couch and began walking towards the kitchen. His feet caused the world to quake and rumble with each collision of his massive soles with the ground.   

His path led him towards the kitchen, and I gave pursuit. Sprinting for everything I was worth it was lucky he’d stopped at the nearest counter. I screamed his name and waved my arms above my head for help.  

As I approached his toes I realized my second mistake of the day, thinking I was still on the same level of existence as my titanic roomie. His foot shifted forward, and I could hear the rough skin sliding across the wood floor. I slowed down as his massive foot arched up, toes the size of buildings crushing small bits of crumbs twice my size with unknowing ease.   

I turned around and ran, realizing I would need a better method of trying to gain this Titan's attention.
