Surveillance, 1976
Added 2021-10-02 05:47:07 +0000 UTCKing County Police Report by Detective Roger Dunn on surveilling Ted while he was in Seattle in the winter of 1975-76:
I got two impressions as to why Bundy uses a tactic of parking the car and walking away:
a. He hoped that I would immobilize the operation of his car so he could scream 'harassment'.
b. He hoped that I would get out and follow him on foot so he could double back to the car and drive off without a tail…
My impressions of Bundy during the day while I was following him is that he does not act like a normal, mature 29 year old law student. He seems to thrive on attention just like a spoiled child and that is the only reason that he altered his behavior, which is to say the more 'attention' he gets, the more he eats it up. It would not be difficult to predict his actions in a situation like this, but trying to maintain a covert surveillance in hopes that he may go to a 'stash' or any other place that might tend to incriminate him would be fruitless and impractical.

I forget now where I read this, most probably here since I only have a couple of books on TRB so far. But I think it was a Psych eval TJ posted for us. The evaluator said she believed he was literally stunted in his emotional maturity at approx the equivalent of a 12 yr old. And she literally meant that. His intellectual abilities most likely helped him unconsciously "work around" whatever he didn't have emotionally. Along with creating a "good guy" persona to throw off suspicions, I think some of his "acting" behavior was him trying to simply imitate being an adult. On the tapes, I noticed this INCREDIBLY creepy giggle that he couldn't quite hold in during his confession of Georgann Hawkins' abduction. In shock and suffering a head wound HE inflicted, she was talking about how people called her Georg, and asked if he was he a Spanish tutor to help her study. And he GIGGLED as he told it but tried not to. Very immature young kids will often laugh if they are talking about something disturbing, but it's like a crossed wire. I've seen it in person. It's like they are SO nervous, they laugh as a reflex. I now think that is the kind of laugh it was. Like when he talked about jumping out the window. He giggled then too. But that was like a naughty boy proud of something REALLY STUPID he did. He was wearing an adult suit that was too big for him. He NEVER had or tried to get a job that matched his abilities and relied on people to take care of him. I know a arasitic lifestyle is a psychopathic trait, but it's like he didn't know HOW to live like an adult. Not even an adult serial killer. He relied on women to take care of him. Mommy issues for sure. He just took stuff he wanted, including women. He was truly child-like. A dangerous, physically strong and intuitive hunter - with a CHILD'S impulsive, undeveloped mind. The game with the cops was just him proving he could evade them, but I don't think he would have tried anything at that time. Imagine if the movie BIG had been about a serial killer. That is how I picture his emotional life.
