The Killing of Kimberly Leach, 1979

Kim arrived on time, as usual, on a raw, rainy Thursday morning at the Lake City Junior High School She forgot her purse in her homeroom when she went to her first class. During the class, her teacher suggested she go back for her purse because such articles had a way of disappearing recently. Kim headed out the back door, and ran the sidewalk in the driving rain toward the other building.

One student told Robyn Feldman, of the Lake City Reporter, she saw Kim being called over to a "white car." When she turned around, she said, Kim was in the car, which was already moving down the street.

A school employee also told police he saw someone leading a girl to a white vehicle on West St. Johns Street behind the school. He said he got the impression from their actions that the girl was being led away by an angry parent.

Another witness, Clarence L. "Andy" Anderson Jr., then a Lake City fire fighter and rescue worker (now retired), went to police several months later. He told them he had been driving along West St. John's Street that morning when he noticed a girl matching Kim's description "being led" to a "white van" which was partially obstructing traffic at the school. He, too, saw the van drive away with the girl inside.

Kim was never seen alive again.
