Unfortunately I don't know the context for this. If I had to guess, it was probably the original entry for Ted Bundy in the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC), or HITS-- the Washington State Attorney General's Homicide Investigation Tracking System: https://www.atg.wa.gov/hits-overview

Perhaps she had the window open ( or opened it at the time ) and then used the external handle to open the door. Not sure if I've read this somewhere or I've just speculated about that.

I was surprised too. But I think he was lean with muscle. In The Stranger Beside Me, Ann Rule said she brought Ted sandwiches and cookies on the night shift because she thought he was skinny and perhaps not getting enough to eat. Then one day he cycled to work in shorts and she described being surprised that he had very muscular legs "like an athlete". And I guess muscle weights more than fat

Definitely possible to remove the interior handle only...

Wow, they describe Ted as 180, so 13.2 stone we'd say here in the UK . This is not a lot (someone who is 13 stone is definitely not 'fat' so no offence to anyone weighing this or more) but I've never seen him looking 13 stone. All other reports put him at like 160, which we'd say is 11 stone, and e has always looked very much that to me. 11 stone is noticeably a bit skinny on a tallish man. By the Kim Leach trial he'd definitely packed on a few pounds but that doesn't correlate with these dates.

This is interesting because I’d read he removed the inside passenger door handle from the VW, yet in Ann Rule’s description of the Da Ronch kidnapping, Carol “reached for the door handle on her side, and started to jump out” which to me implies the passenger side door handle was still intact, allowing her to jump out. I would think Bundy would have thought to remove the handle before this incident, seeing as he’d killed about a dozen girls before her kidnapping, so it does make one wonder about the rumors we hear. When I read that line from The Stranger Beside Me, the first thing I thought was “huh, I thought there was no handle.” Maybe Carol’s memory was faulty considering the circumstances, or maybe she thought she was jumping out when she wasn’t, or maybe Bundy removed the handle after her kidnapping. Either way, definitely something to think about.

Please do! I'd share it.

You can, they're independent of one another. Here is a video of how to replace the outside door handle on a Volkswagen Beetle; it's very easy, one bolt. The inside is a little more complex but the outside door handle will operate without it. I may make my own video showing this.

You will learn though extensive research of this case or others that it is more common to find Inconsistencies within reports and preconceived notions that are false. Do not confuse an “expert’s” statements with what is evidence. Just because there is no evidence that TB removed the handle of the VW to mean it is not possible to do nor that TB never did it.

I noticed that too. I wish I had more context, but I don’t even know exactly when this was created, or by whom.

Tiffany J.

Says "handles off door" of the VW. I'd read somewhere that it's not possible to take the inside handle off a car (the VW in this case) without taking the outside handle too.
