Upon request, Ted's cancelled checks for 1974.

Ted's Checks

No, not to my knowledge. He was still using his National Bank of Commerce in Seattle account in Salt Lake then.

Does TB open bank acct(s) in Salt Lake City in Sept/Oct 1974?

Joy

Or you would get paid, cash your check leaving yourself enough till the next paycheck and deposit some. (There was no direct deposit, wasn't done.)

Marilyn Martucci

No, different ice cream place- that was Farrell's.

Tiffany J.

As for what the missing list means, my guess is that the bank records list checks cashed on those dates, but the actual cancelled check copies are missing.

Stores still accept checks. In the 70s most of us wrote checks. ATMs were just getting started, debit cards existed but were in pilot testing. Getting cash meant going to the bank for a withdrawal, writing a check to cash, writing a check for more than the amount of purchase, or writing a check to yourself at the bank.

Look at you, you’ve become quite the researcher! 😁

Pay N Save a drug store chain. Things were different then. I don't believe they would accept payment by check at say Stop N Shop or CVS today. Wonder what he is getting at the drug store. Cigarettes ? I'm sure the drug stores then sold more traditional drug store type goods as opposed to today when they sell everything under the sun.

Ok duh, some of the cancelled checks tell you the payee; AP probably a supermarket as well A&P....Campus Creamery ? Is that where Ted and Liz famously went after Sammy ? You know they went to the bowling alley for hamburgers and then for Ice cream

QFC is another Supermarket "Quality Food Centers" It's a well known chain in the Pacific Northwest FYI

That's fascinating IMO. Too bad his writing is so atrocious and the poor quality of some of the documents. What's with all the Safeway checks ? Is he regularly purchasing food with a check ? What's the deal with Pay and Save ? If you know multiple checks written to that place. Several checks written to "QFC" What's that stand for ? If you know. Plus he wrote a five dollar check to Molly ? Who gives a check to a child ? Did he never carry cash ? Lots of small checks. That missing check list (I gather that was written by someone in law enforcement) What's your read there ? What's missing exactly ? The cancelled check ? Was Ted hiding something or is there absence unrelated to the crimes. Any key points you'd like to share regarding these records ? Anything stand out as particularly telling to you ?
