The Lynnette Culver Investigation Summary, 1989

The Lynnette Culver Investigation Summary, 1989

Comments

Bundy admitted to 2 in Idaho, one was Lynette and another was unnamed and according to the summary law enforcement at the time couldn't match a missing girl to it. I would love to know if anyone has revisited and maybe even searched the surrounding states and areas in case she made her way TO Idaho.

Michael Clark

Only FYI, Lynnette looked a lot older than her age. This is per another student who lived near her whom I've spoken with.

Crystal

Personally I think the very young victims were "desperation" targets. He had tried and failed to pick up a coed at the Idaho State University residence hall before he went trolling at a junior high school. I think he knew a girl that young would be an easy target.

Tiffany J.

If his surprise was genuine, one can wonder about the extent of his denial. He picked the girl from a junior high school, they talked a lot, so she may even have mentioned her age if she spoke about her boyfriend, school and family. Maybe he assumed she was closer to 14, but it is still a child.

Well like I said, it's not in the original record from that Jan 22 1989 interview. If that happened, it must have been off the record. Bundy certainly knew her approximate age.

Tiffany J.

This information was given by Reneau in a phone interview given to Chris Mortensen. The interview is available in full on Captain Borax youtube channel in a video dedicated to Lynette´s case.

Joanna Marek

If that happened, it wasn't recorded. In fact, the name Lynnette Culver was never mentioned in the recording, neither by Reneau nor Bundy. I'm pretty sure Bundy had some idea of her age, as he abducted her from a junior high school, and described her as being in her early teens. Junior high in the US is approximately ages 12-14.

Tiffany J.

Do you believe Ted was really unaware of Lynette´s age at the time of the crime? Russ Reneau claimed Ted was shocked to hear that she was just 12, he winced when he learnt it. Reneau thinks it was an honest reaction and that Ted thought she was older.

Joanna Marek

No the full confession is here: https://hiimted.blog/the-idaho-confession-1989/ He says he dumped her body in a river. Of course, with Polly Nelson he told her he cut up her body. Not sure which story is true, if he was lying, or if he was mixing up his murders. As for Oregon, they'd been trying to talk to him for years and never were able to get in. Diana Weiner didn't invite them to his flurry of final confessions, and Oregon was again ignored when they tried in 1989. Oregon is a blue state which would have been more likely to interfere with an execution than Idaho, a solid red state. He'd been on Oregon's radar for years, unlike Idaho. So... why?

Tiffany J.

Sure it would work in that case. Even if the victim "alleged" victim wasn't buried they need time to figure out which missing person or Jane Doe it was Idaho has missing persons and Jane Doe corpses right ? and How do you know she wasn't buried he didn't say Diddley except he killed a hitchhiker in that state right ?.....And I would be shocked if he turned down Oregon...The more States he talked to the better....I bet either the report that says Bundy turned Oregon down is incorrect or Bundy had just thrown in the towel at that point...My recollection is that Oregon just didn't get in for reasons other than Ted saying No. I've never heard that before that I recall That Ted said No to Oregon

Joseph DeStefano

They didn't even have a name for her tho, and he didn't bury her so there was nothing to find. Bones for time wouldn't work in that case. Oregon was actively trying to get in to see him, and he admitted to killing in Oregon, but he wouldn't grant them an interview. Why?

Tiffany J.

He was trying to save his life bones for time. He needed to dangle new cases in front of them. Each State had varying willingness and/or possible ability to influence the Florida Governor so maybe he was trying to enlist or motivate Idaho to help him. On some of these death row tapes he says Are you gonna let the powers that be know that I'm helping you close cases right away etc. etc.

Joseph DeStefano

Not sure what the point of that would have been, since he wasn't even on Idaho's radar at the time.

Tiffany J.

no details. Wasn't he car full of house plants ? How would there be any room for a hitcher ? I think it may be BS

Joseph DeStefano

Hush hush? What do you mean?

Tiffany J.

Come up with any Culver pics ? Why so hush hush about the September 74 hitch hiker murder ? That one might be bullsh*t
