I knew an Arboretum was involved

Joseph DeStefano

RK: Well, you've got -- this is the main road that goes down. All the way down Capitol Hill. 24th goes to 23rd. Is the bike something that somebody would have found, out in the open? TB: Oh, well. I mean, some little black kid's riding it around. RK: Sure. Sure. TB: Probably ridden the wheels off it. But, it's a black area, well, mixed. Used to be. Border line of the central Area... It's below 24th. And what it used to be, there was a main drag that came out, out of the Central Area. I used to drive a lot, in the old days before the freeway was all fixed up. And I was going South to Tacoma. And I used to come in on that and I remember there was a-- RK: This is the street here. That's all the way in from the Central Area. It goes all the way. All the way from I-90. TB: I know it does. But that's not the one. But don't ask me why. RK: Ahh ha. TB: Cause I'm trying to find, you know, the part of the Arboretum that this little roadway, back roadway, sort of snakes around. I mean, snakes around. But -- see, I thought, started to think it was this one. But it dead ends there. That's not right. RK: Ahh ha. Is the -- you didn't conceal the bicycle in any way? TB: No. No. RK: So there's no use even pointing out where it is because we can never find it. TB: Well, it was concealed, but leaves and branches...

Really ? I swear one of the books said he claimed to have left it at an "Arboretum"

Joseph DeStefano

Ted claimed to have left Jan's bike in an impoverished ("Black") neighborhood. My guess is, he figured an impoverished person wouldn't pay as much attention to the media, or that they wouldn't want to turn in such a valuable find.

You're talking about Sandi Holt, and I agree that she seems a bit off. There's no evidence for her claims besides her claims, and that instantly makes me suspicious. And I'm actually the person who figured out that picture of "Marjorie" was actually an entirely different person, lol. Netflix should have hired me to fact check! ;) As for Ann Rule, she really did know him, and he did write her letters from jail, etc. so his claims that she was a "passing acquaintance" simply aren't true. However, Rule did seem to favor the sensational and fudged the facts in favor of a good story in several places. If I may say so, in my humble opinion, that's what makes me and my work different. I just present facts, usually in the form of original records, and let the reader decide for themselves what to think.

Wow, the Lake Sammy tip form that's cool. So this is relevant to establish that Ted is a sexual deviant of the sort consistent with the type of person who would have committed the Sammy murders. Ok LOL Who is the clueless idiot that found that yellow bike and never called anyone ? Must be someone that didn't own a TV, Radio, Newspaper didn't know what they had.

Thanks for your reply. It just seems so bizarre (even for him) that if he did in fact do it, say once, if he was caught why would he continue to do it and be ridiculed? Just seems a bit weird. What do you think about Ann Rule’s book and her statements in general? Ted says she had no basis to make the claims she did and that she ‘grossly overplayed what was a passing acquaintance’ because she knew him for such a short time and never lived with him day in and day out. Sometimes I find it difficult to decide which accounts and such to believe as a lot of people seem to decide to come out with ‘new information’ to get some sort of attention from the case. For example, the neighbour in the Conversations with a Killer Netflix documentary (her name escapes me, I think Ted knew her brother) makes some pretty bold claims about Ted hanging a cat by its tail from the washing line etc. All of her ‘recollections’ seem off and attention-seeking. I’ve never heard of him abusing animals. In the doco they also show two photos of Ted’s college girlfriend Diane, but the second photo they show is not even her. Its a different person. If a ‘documentary’ doesn’t even seek to showcase facts, what can you trust?

Why he wouldn't give a written statement I don't know... looking to see if there are any more notes from him. Other classmates of his were also interviewed- some recalled hearing about this and described it as a rumor, others hadn't heard about it at all. No one seemed to have witnessed it themselves. I'd be interested to know whether Willburn claimed to have seen it himself, or if it was a rumor he'd heard. In Stranger Beside Me, Ann Rule stated that it had happened, as fact.

Tiffany J.

Wtf. Do you think this story is true? Why wouldn’t Wilburn give a written statement?
