Execution Witnesses, 1989
Added 2021-04-01 00:47:37 +0000 UTCUpon request, the official witness list for Ted's execution. At the time, Florida law did not allow victims' families to be present at executions. James Coleman and Fred Lawrence were also in attendance, but are not listed.
I spoke to witness Jim Sewell recently. He was one of the first FSU police officers on the scene after the Chi Omega attacks (which he described as a "shark frenzy"). He remembered that the Prison had served a large breakfast buffet spread for all the witnesses the morning of the execution, but no one really ate anything. He said that when it was over and they lifted the hood from Ted's face: "I swear to God that bastard was staring directly at me."

Died with his eyes open. Probably almost instantly. I've seen a dead person up close whose eyes were open - it's unnerving, you can tell something is gone.
