Clean Sweep

Thought y'all might enjoy this humorous little time capsule of Aspen in 1977. The Aspen State Teacher's College was a fake "college" which put out a joke newsletter called "Clean Sweep" in the style of The Onion. The June issue was heavily laced with Bundy escape jokes. While the business advertisements were genuine, the content wasn't.

Images are courtesy/copyright Marc Demmon, who ran the "College" at the time and wrote the newsletter. He said Aspen in the 70s was like a hippie college town but without the college, so he made (a fake) one. He recalled that at the time of Bundy's first escape, the townsfolk didn't know much about Bundy's widespread murder suspicions. They just knew that Ted was being prosecuted for the Campbell murder, and it was generally thought to be a weak case. Bundy himself seemed good looking, smart, and irreverent, so he became a joke 'hero' of sorts in the town. The gravity of the situation didn't sink in until later.

Special thanks to Vince Lahey for putting me in contact with Marc.

Someone is going to think this is real. This eventuality will cause me great laughter. Thank you for posting.
