In the summer of 1977, Bundy was still in pretrial hearings in Pitkin County, Colorado for the murder of Caryn Campbell. His first attempted escape was June 7, and he was recaptured on June 13. The "Manhunt" article ran in the June 9, 1977 edition of the Aspen Times. Bundy was then interviewed for the Rollins article in the Times about 10 weeks later.
