Letter from Dick Larsen, 1988
Added 2023-01-29 07:58:22 +0000 UTCA friendly letter from Dick Larsen, the author of the Deliberate Stranger and writer for the Seattle Times. They had known each other in political circles prior to Ted's problems with the law. Here he seems to be proposing a Hail Mary effort to save Ted's life, about six weeks before the execution.

"I'm aware of the status of the writ petition and the probable outcome. And I'm trying hard to figure out an alternative to that death sentence implementation...
Ted, I know you've been told this and you know this: But you are unique and you have unique opportunities to contribute to society. I know of your wish to do that... and I know of your willingness to contribute under the right circumstances.
I've considered- and may do it right away- asking about an expression of desire from the feds that you be spared and placed at Quantico as an interstate information resource. I'm sure I can get some support for such an idea from families of certain murder victims and-- who knows?-- a governor or two..."

2023-01-30 03:55:50 +0000 UTCDid Ted reply? When he says 'Billy Buckley' that isn't William Buckley by any chance is it, the famous conservative television host and writer. I suppose it seems unlikely William F Buckley was very pro-capital-punishment and unlikely to come Bundy's defense in any way like that. But it seemed like a famous name drop almost.
