Interview with Rich Bundy, 2022, Part 2

Thanks for everyone's patience while I've been working on this. Audio editing is actually pretty hard when you don't know what you're doing, but I did the best I could. It probably doesn't help that I'm also a perfectionist. So again, thanks for hanging in there.

In Part 2 of our interview, Rich shares several memories of Ted, and how his family dealt with the aftermath of the tragedy. He also discusses the Bundys' relationship with Carole and Ted's daughter Rosa. Finally, Rich answers a question many of us have wondered for a long time- what happened to Ted's ashes-- and offers his opinion on people still interested in the Ted Bundy story.

Updated with the transcript.

Interview with Rich Bundy, 2022, Part 2

Comments

I think Ted was pure sociopath and I think that he said what people wanted to hear. I think he had animus for Bob Keppel and so he wasn't going to show any remorse there, but I think he intellectually understood that Hagmire cared about his family and so was willing to express remorse in order to placate or satisfy Hagmire. I think intellectually he knew that there were people like him out there and that he wanted to protect Rose from them. I don't think it was out of a sense of remorse, I think it would be more out of a sense of narcissistic parenting parenting and feeling this that she was an extension of him.

Excellent Interview, one of the best I´ve ever heard! Compelling and heart breaking at the same time - I got the impression that Rich has only recently started to work through a severe trauma that he has been suppressing for most of his life and this interview probably helped him a lot in this process. I really hope he will find an artistic way to channel his emotions (music, a book or both) and that he will finally manage to get in touch with his niece, which I dare say would most likely help them heal the wounds from the past and benefit them both.

Thank very much for this, Tiffany Jean. Very well done and grateful to Richard too. I think it's great that you befriended him. Many interesting points brought up. I think it's ironic that Rich says around the 23-minute mark that Rosa had a right to know about her father because I get the impression, referring to the part 1 of the interview as well, that Rich loved his parents and didn't feel he could criticize them since they were good to Ted too, however, he seemed to not acknowledge the trauma Ted went through, not knowing the name of his father, never seeing a photo of him, and really not knowing anything about him except that he was not married to his mother. Ted had a right to know... Really liked the horse story, horses being so often mistreated.
