Depositions of Det. Norm Chapman, 1978 and 1979

To the best of my knowledge, the significant thing that we talked about was the fact that Mr. Bundy wanted to go back to Washington and be close to his family and spend his time in prison.

Why would he want to go to prison?

Well, evidently at that time, he felt like that was where he was going to spend the rest of his life.

Did you ever discuss what he would be going to prison for?

Well, some of the problems he’d had.

Now, this is where his “problems" come up. What were his problems?

The problems were that when he had associations with certain young ladies, nobody ever saw them again.

Who said that?

Well I don't remember exactly who said that. But that’s what we associated his problem to.

Did he associate his problem with that? --or was that what you thought?

When we talked about it, yes, that's what he associated his problem with... I asked him, that we had to have a simple yes or no, was he or was he not responsible for the deaths of these girls in Tallahassee? And at this time, his eyes were red and had the appearance of an individual who was about to cry, and he looked at Mr. Bodiford and Mr. Patchen, and I believe what he said was that, "the evidence is there. Look for it."
