Correctional Compass, 1991

A January 1991 edition of the Florida Dept of Corrections newsletter. This issue focused on a seminar led by FBI Agent Bill Hagmaier for criminal justice groups in Florida. It includes several interesting bits of information from Bill's conversations with Ted.

"Several people have asked Hagmaier why Bundy killed Kimberly Leach, the 12-year-old girl from Lake City, when in the past he had confined his killings to college-age women. Hagmaier said Bundy expressed "embarrassment" over killing her, because she was so young. But that Bundy's homicidal time clock was still running when he killed Leach, which was soon after the Chi Omega murders in Tallahassee. Bundy was eventually executed January 24, 1989 for the Leach murder.

Did Bundy ever show remorse? Hagmaier said Bundy did say he felt sorry for the families of the girls he killed, but he never said he was sorry for killing them..."

I never had either... as far as I know, she was in real estate and finance, not law enforcement.

Thanks! Interesting note from Bill H that Diane (yes, her again!) worked in law enforcement? I’d never heard that before…

Thank you so much!

Sure, I uploaded the additional page. It's an excerpt from "Practical Homicide Investigations" by Vernon Geberth.

Thank you for sharing this. Please is there any possibility to obtain the complete edition of this issue of the Florida Department of Correction Newsletter? I ask because Bob Ressler is also mentioned in an accompanying but truncated article where it appears he discusses Richard Trenton Chase (aka, The Vampire Killer), who was from California.
