An early police interview with Detective Jerry Thompson and Captain Hayward from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. Ted was in the Salt Lake County Jail at the time, pending trial for the DaRonch kidnapping. He'd be released on bail a couple weeks later-- his parents took out a second mortgage to pay for it.

Capt. Hayward: Well don't you have your degree in Psychology, is it, Psychology or Sociology?
Bundy: Psychology… I don't try to, I'm not a, I, I don't try to figure people out, I never have, I don’t, of course I don’t think psychiatrists and psychologists, in my experience, have a great, oh, any more insight into people than a lot of people on the street who don’t have degrees have. So, we place a great deal of faith in their, their opinions, I think is the major impact of psychiatric statements…
I know for a fact having worked in a psychiatric counseling center that, ah, that people have some severe problems, and often times their past history and their past diagnoses influence what you do, because people in the profession often like to err on the side of safety, and you’d rather label a guy sick than, than not, because if he ever goes, goes and does anything, then if you said he’s well the burden’s on you, see. Just like, just like people in your business, you’d rather keep someone inside that you think might be dangerous rather than let him outside and um, and then have something happen to him.
