The Deliberate Stranger

Hey everyone, want to hear me nerd out about the Ted Bundy story for two hours? Then I’ve got a treat for you!

KITA friend and fellow Bundy aficionado Mario Lanza runs an excellent podcast dedicated to exploring some of the lesser known movies of the past that deserve more recognition.

In this episode of his show Staff Picks, we discuss The Deliberate Stranger, a made for television movie from 1986. Based on Richard Larsen’s bestselling book of the same name, this was actually the first Ted Bundy movie ever made, and the only one to come out while the killer was still alive and feigning innocence on death row.

Check it out here or on Apple Podcasts, and check out the movie too; it’s a must for anyone interested in the case. You can watch it on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/100067783495550/videos/371901823206921/

If this movie was released in 86, did Bundy know about, did he have any reaction to this, or any other films made about him while he was still alive?

This movie is amazing, you can actually buy it on DVD on Amazon! I own it. It’s the first and I think the best. I didn’t even finish the odd movie “Bundy”, it seemed icky with the actor playing him kind of weird. The movie “Extremely Wicked” etc on Netflix is okay too, but Deliberate Stranger is my fave for sure.

Yes! As soon as I wrote that title out I realized I worded it incorrectly. Thanks for that link! I’ll go watch it as soon as I can. I really admire and appreciate all the work you put into your blog. Thanks for responding to me.

Did you mean The Only Living Witness by Michaud/Aynesworth? I agree, it's very well written and researched, and I'd highly recommend it. As for the movie, someone uploaded it to Facebook here: https://fb.watch/qNMvi0I3tw/

I thought it was a very good, factual, insider look at the case at a very specific point in time from a very specific point of view. It would be one of the books I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in Bundy.

I really enjoyed listening to that podcast! I saw that movie way back when it aired and had wanted to see it again but had been unable to find it. The topic of books on Bundy came up during your conversation and I don’t remember hearing The Last Living Witness mentioned. Next to the book written by Liz, it’s my personal favorite. What’s your opinion on that one?

Enjoyed the podcast. Did not know Anne Rule emblisged. What are your thoughts on the book The Devils Defender?
