itโs complicated with the constant threat of death, because in my mind none of them are โfakeโโฆ they did keep losing health and dying in the campaign, and at the time none of us knew if they would be able to heal or get revived in time. in normal scripted tv shows it can get SOOO annoying to have constant fake outs, but since this all genuinely happened, and the threat of it causes significant character growth, i just enjoy the emotional ride :)

2025-03-30 02:46:57 +0000 UTCI've wanted to cover that song for FOREVER! I am really looking forward to your cover! Also the death fake outs aren't particularly exciting for us. But for the characters it will inform future decisions. They are constantly in danger. Being so close to death and having things happen to you will change how you act the next time. Like with Kiki. Vax has been trying to ignore his feelings. But the moment she is in real danger he Rushes to her.

2025-03-23 03:08:31 +0000 UTCNope, not fooled by any of the deaths that also happened in the stream. We'd only be fooled if they started deviating from the stream and killing people in the show who survived in the stream. I mean, can you imagine if they did that? And really, I'm not sure we're supposed to be fooled. We knew Keyleth wasn't killed by the fire realm - but Vax didn't, and his reaction was part of the development of his character. It's a fair bet that Pike isn't dead - but that's not going to be all that much comfort to Grog right now. Knowing the stream does help in other ways, too. For example, you asked if there had been a backlash to Allura and Kima being in a relationship. As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been, because they have always been a couple, right from the start when they were both voiced by Matt on an obscure internet stream that no-one really expected to last more than a few episodes, let alone become the juggernaut that Critical Role now is. And I'm sorry, but Kamaljiori was doomed from the moment the fight with Umbrasil began. One of the characteristics of black dragons is their cruelty - they toy with their victims, deliberately not using all their strength or abilities to give them false hope. Kam was strong, but sphinxes in D&D aren't as strong as ancient dragons. He got bonuses when he was in his lair - home field advantage, if you like - and that kept him in the fight at first, but the moment he got lured outside to save Scanlan, it was as good as over.

2025-03-20 06:12:06 +0000 UTCTo be clear if you didn't quite get it before, the particular trap that killed Vex required a saving throw and she rolled a nat 1, which a instant failure to avoid the trap, not death. it just so happened that the trap also killed her...

2025-03-19 17:09:14 +0000 UTCI think a lot of us have been waiting for you to react to Into Rimecleft. The Scanlan moments are just peak here. Tbh though, I didn't think it would grab your emotions as much as it did. But I love that we get a bit more depth from Scanlan. He seeks love so much - he just doesn't know how.

2025-03-19 15:58:06 +0000 UTCFun fact: the bloody swamp area filled with Vox Machina corpses from Grog's nightmare was referred to in production notes as the Friendship Pool! :D Also the joke about Rimecleft's myth & Keyleth being interrupted before she can explain it is that IIRC Rimecleft didn't exist in the original game session. It was added to the map during TLOVM because originally Kamaljiori's temple (he and Osysa are both servants of the Knowing Mistress, the goddess of Knowledge & Magic) was on a completely different continent that it would have made no sense for the party to go to in the show. Also, regarding "fake dying"... it's very hard to have stakes for death in a world where you canonically have the power to bring people back to life. As a result, they have been pretty careful about drawing a line around "dying" and "actually dead." If you pay attention, both Cassandra & Keyleth in s1 don't die, but are stuck in a state of "making death saves," aka very close to dying, but still capable of being healed before Fate, ah, snaps their thread. When characters are DEAD dead, not just close to death, that becomes a much bigger deal.

2025-03-19 14:48:21 +0000 UTCLoving these reactions, I forgot korras VA voiced Keiliths mum!! I'm also pretty sure she recreated the iconic scene in miniature there Aang brings all the elements around him when going up against Ozai. A little nod to ATLA ๐ฅฐ
