Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 09 - Reflection

This chapter was really important as a way to start setting the stakes for the rest of the book. By introducing both the series of assumptions Vee is making, but also showing what she's preparing for, I'm hoping I did a good job in building some tension. There are a lot of assumptions being made, by pretty much everyone, so it'll be interesting to see how that all plays out.

I also made sure to explain that demons tend to leave traces of sulfur for the first time. I very briefly had an editor once, and one thing she mentioned in an earlier chapter was that my allusion to sulfur wasn't really explained. I'll admit, as someone who grew up marinated in nerd culture, and seeing all the different ways different writers portray demons, it was nice to be reminded that maybe not everyone automatically jumps to the Sulfur = Demon connection. 

Which actually, somewhat tangentially, ties into another thing I really appreciate in strong writing. Media has a lot of tropes, and I feel it's pretty easy to fall back on those tropes when building a new stories, but sometimes they don't feel earned. The best stories, in my opinion, give their audiences a really solid justification for why those tropes exist, rather than just slapping them in for the fun of it. One big goal I have as a writer is to really sell everything I write, to make plot beats and elements feel earned. Fingers crossed its working!

Anyways, stepping off my soap box (Man I really need to move that somewhere harder to reach), we finally get back to Amara and Tessa! It may have been pretty obvious where this was going, but there was no way I was going to NOT have them hook up here. 

Fun fact about your truly - I'm a huge lesbian. Like, huge. I'll always find it funny that so much of Amara's early story focuses so heavily on straight-appearing sex, but at the very least, I finally get to have Amara start hooking up with other girls. Tessa was really fun to write in this scene, and if I've played my cards right, she's been giving off bottom energy for a while now.

This chapter is otherwise pretty quiet. I enjoyed Amara exploring her more confident and dominant side, and Tessa pushed her to take more control of her fire powers, which is always fun.

It's probably also the most porn-y chapter I've ever written, but that's just my opinion. "Oh no, I'm trapped my magic vines and the only way out is to fuck me!". Like, I had a blast, 10/10 would do it again, but I'll be the first to admit it's a little silly. Thankfully, I really like silly, I think it's nice to like things and have fun with them.
