Really the fact that this is more a proof of concept episode means it’s fine that it doesn’t make a lot of sense. But also, Homestuck doesn’t make a lot of sense out of the gate? You just kind of accept that they live in a world that operates off video game mechanics with no explanation. (Which then weirdly gets explained like….. millions of pages later.) And the montage at the end is more of a teaser trailer than anything, showing other locations, characters, and giving a taste of what the studio could theoretically do with Homestuck. As an avid reader back in 2013~ish, I can say that this is cute and fun and looks like it might actually do the general idea justice.

2025-10-02 15:22:00 +0000 UTChey casper! casual homestuck veteran here, here’s a bit of an explanation for what all that was without spoiling anything plotwise hopefully this pilot isnt the whole first episode, its the very beginning sped up a bit with a montage to show what lies ahead, a proof of concept, and theyve said that if it gets greenlit (which is looking likely) it will be slowed down and expanded upon as for whether or not the world itself if a video game, kinda? the webcomic itself is much more interactive than your modern webtoon, with little flash animations you can play (the first being the strife wiht john’s dad) and use to control some of the characters for certain pages, and thats one of the reason a lot of fans are hesitant going into this, it will be one hell of an undertaking to adapt it, but they have the creator helping them with it for better or worse (the creator has become a kinda controversial figure in the fandom) the sylladexes (inventories) however are supposed to be based on coding structures, which is why the narrator calls him out for being shit at coding. at the time it was basically the creator memeing on himself for being shit at coding by making the main character also shit at coding, with the sylladex basically being a device to show that finally, up until around the end of act 2 of the comic whatever actions the characters took were USER SUBMITTED, it was basically a collaborative project where Hussie would post a page, pick a command from the pool of comments, draw the page for that command, and the cycle repeats (hence the ==> command you will see) its the same style used for a lot of the other MSPaint Adventures
