Fun with Twitter
Added 2019-12-06 12:28:09 +0000 UTCI've been getting a lot of questions from people lately about why my twitter shows as suspended, and as much as I'd like to tell everyone what's going on, I obviously can't do that on twitter just yet. If any of you want to forward this to interested parties, I'd appreciate it.
Two days ago a person (possibly multiple people) reported a banner I was using as "sensitive content". The image was of the latest picture where nick has someone behind him with a snoot under his tail, although cropped in a way that showed nothing explicit, and any and all fluids were edited out of the image. At best, the image was suggestive. I would attach it here, but I'm not sure I could have the post be public, if said image really is that spicy.
Twitter notified me by email that account was suspended, and that I would need to log back in to the account to remove the offending header and reopen the account. Except the verification page that sends you an email with a link wasn't sending me emails. I tried several different emails, checked the spam folder, made sure there were no filters, and still no email.
So I made a support ticket to twitter about not being able to get in, as well as an appeal to the suspension. Nothing. Waited two days, and I got a fresh, suspiciously robotic email today that reads as attached:
What's limited features? What's the allotted time? I have no idea, but I guess we'll see what happens. None of the reports I've made about targeted harassment have ever resulting in more than "sorry, guess you should just block them if you don't like what they say."
It's been pointed out to me that a few people are celebrating being a part of this:
You'd think people who threaten users for even following me wouldn't be all that familiar with what my header was, but they were right on top of flagging it. It reminds me a lot of when my patreon was put on hold because of targeted mass flagging by said people, only to be reopened again. For the record, people send in false flags to patreon quite often hoping a new hire won't see it for the harassment that it is.
For anyone that's inconvenienced by this, I apologize. I don't really use twitter all that often, but it serves as an alternative archive for my work. I imagine it inconveniences those who rely on that, more than it does for me. I'm sure the email verification issue will be resolved soon.

2019-12-06 14:50:12 +0000 UTCTwitter is inevitably going down the drain next: I like the way they handle some issues, but they will often ban anyone for any reason these days... in some cases justifiably in others less so. I've been permanently banned there myself, a few days after being unbanned and not doing anything, without any explanation or the team even replying back the second time. I recommend giving Mastodon a try... just be sure to find the right server, a lot of admins there are worse than your average Twitter fanatic.

And hopefully Twitter is as kind about it as Patreon staff were with me.
