About the competent NPCs

Pauline of course is the main character, and I think that you feel that many of your decisions influence the story directly. But some of your choices shape the story in another way. Here I give you a scene that fulfills one of those situations. Martha has a plan, but you can through your walkthrough make her change her decision.

Martha was odd and distant that day. It was quite weird to see her in that condition. There was some coldness you didn't see since your transformation.
"We were very close to something really dangerous," she said. "But I took care of it. I stopped the ritual Caroline wanted to perform."
She looked exhausted.
"I can't say if I want to know what happened," you answered. She smirked.
"Ignorance is a blessing," she said. "But I think that you deserve the truth."
"Ok, now I'm scared."
"Caroline wanted to spread the Parity," she explained. "She thought - or she was told - that it would make easier the ritual to perform. But when you open the door, somebody can go in. "Could it make beating David easier? Perhaps. I feel strong enough for this confrontation..."
She sighed.
"But it would be dangerous for Olivier and Dorothy. Those who would enter... Well, they would break them. Maybe permanently."
You were surprised. You bulged your eyes out.
Martha giggled.
"Don't thank me yet, Pauline. Maybe I doomed us all. It all went too far, anyway. But I feel right. I made a good choice. But now... I need a hug."
You hugged her.
"Everything will be alright," you whispered.
"I do my best. I promise."
Both of you were scared.
