Devil In The Waters, Book 3, Chapter 12 (complete)

After Mom died, Pop had stayed single for the longest time, all through her university years, and didn’t get a female friend until he’d sold his jewelry businesses and moved to Markham. Susan Araki looked thirty-five, so when Pop first introduced the woman to her as “his friend,” she’d worried. But Susan was fifty-two, the same age as her dad. Josh was in the kitchen with her now helping her bake, so Kimmy sat at the dining room table with her father sharing a small pot of green tea.

Pop was obsessed with her new job, asking again about the view from her office. She said, “I told you: it’s nothing that special.” Part of the reason she’d been enticed by the job offer from Devlin (hidden and unsaid but powerful) was the knowledge her father would find some peace in it. Not just peace, but pride. Try explaining to your workaholic father that after six years of university you pick a law firm with humble salary and limited room for advancement. Pop never complained (only insinuated), but her sister told her how he was disappointed. So, for the moment, she’d bask in the glow of his satisfaction. “But, I tell you what,” she said to her dad, “give me a month there, come by one day and see it. We’ll go out for lunch.”

Pop said, “See what that painting looks like on the wall.”

It would be great if he’d come, but it wasn’t likely—he worked six days a week, often seven. Since selling the three jewelry stores (in Kingston, Gananoque, and Cornwall), he’d opened a new one in Agincourt, and it was as busy now as the other three combined.

Josh came into the dining room now, ahead of Susan and holding a tray of sugar cookies; Susan trailed, holding a cake pedestal with a small but elaborate Black Forest. Together, her husband and the woman her father wouldn’t admit was his girlfriend, arranged the offering on the table on either side of the tea setting. While Susan was born and raised in Japan and the meal she prepared today was traditional, a Hiyashi chūka with ham and egg, and a cold tomato soup to start, she had a passion for Western-style baking. Josh always got excited coming to see Pop and Susan, just to see what the woman baked next.

She said to Susan, “Is this where Josh takes credit for making dessert?”

“I’ll have you know,” Josh said, “I put these cookies in the oven all by myself. Where would we be without me?”

Susan patted his arm. She liked Josh as much as Josh liked her.

Pop said to Josh, “Have you been to her new office?”

“Not invited,” Josh said, with charm for her father’s sake, who had no idea of Josh’s past with her new boss.

“You be a good boy, maybe she change her mind,” Pop said, grabbing and shaking Josh’s upper arm then laughing. She looked in Josh’s eyes trying to command him: Don’t bring it up. It’s not my father’s business.

Susan returned to the kitchen and filled the kettle. Pop asked Josh how he was doing at Swanson. Her phone dinged in her purse slung over the back of her chair, and with Josh and Pop talking and Susan away from the table, she took the opportunity to check her messages. It was the second message coming in since they’d been in Pop’s condo.

It was a text from Devlin asking her what she did on Saturdays that had her away from her phone since she couldn’t answer his first message. She texted him back saying she was having lunch with her dad and what was he doing texting on a Saturday afternoon since she knew he wasn’t working. He texted he was at the Rogers Centre with a whiskey waiting for the Jays game to start and wondered how she was doing.

Right—the Jays game. He’d arranged suite seats standing outside the cargo container while she’d cleaned herself with his kerchief because he’d fingered her so well her orgasm had her squirting all over her legs. She hadn’t seen or talked directly to him since driving back from Hamilton and couldn’t help wondering if he’d be manipulative enough to coincide his text to her as a reminiscence. He knew she knew he’d booked Jays tickets because she chastised him for it back in the Mercedes, mad at his indifference in the cargo container. Which was stupid—what did she expect, he’d stay with her and help her clean her mess?

“Sounds like you’re both doing well,” her father said to Josh. “Two future vice-presidents.” Now Pop held up his tea cup, and the others joined in. She swapped the phone to her other hand and raised her tea cup as well.

Josh sipped tea, looked to her and said quietly, “Should you be doing that at the table?” Meaning her phone.

She said, “It’s work,” for her father’s ears so she wouldn’t get in trouble.

Pop said to Josh, “Let her—it’s okay,” patting Josh’s forearm. “She has to make good impression, let them know she work hard. I forgive her today.” Now Pop smiled her way.

She smiled in return, said, “I should take this,” wagging the phone at them.

Pop excused her, but Josh made a mild expression of exasperation. But now he and her Pop would be in their glory, planning grand-babies together. Her sister hadn’t done it yet, either, and her Pop was probably ready to explode. He’d taken the failed pregnancy as bad as she did.

She stepped away from the table, walked toward the living room and stood by the windows that looked out over the industrial park stretch of Markham, a swath of green where the Rouge would run.

She texted.

Kimmy: trying to annoy me, sending a message from the Jays game?

Devlin: you still sore?

She chuckled.

Kimmy: I know your games

Devlin: You only think you do

Kimmy: you’re admitting this isn’t about work?

There was a long moment before he returned a message. She watched cars sliding along left and right on the 407, beyond the green-space, sun winking off their hump shapes. Her phone dinged.

Devlin: how we doing on the paperwork for Chow? We good?

Kimmy: all good

Devlin: how about the other thing? am I going to have to fire you?

Kimmy: I’m working on it

Devlin: that’s good. enough business. I need you on Monday night

Another sly chuckle, she put her gold pendant in her mouth, zipped her necklace chain back and forth through its loop; texted.

Kimmy: and... what do you need me for?

Devlin: first, get your mind out of the gutter

Kimmy: my mind is nowhere near the gutter. my mind is squeaky clean

Now she glanced to the table, saw that Josh was embroiled in close conversation with her Pop and Susan, and she stepped further away, deeper into Pop’s living room where he kept all his furniture spotless and gleaming like no one had ever sat in here before.

Devlin: so if I asked for a picture of your cooch I probably won’t get one?

Kimmy: not a chance.

Devlin: saves me asking I guess

Now she was full-on smiling, chain in her mouth, running the pendant up and down the links, making it zip and vibrate against her pressed lips. A glance over her shoulder showed her family still talking, drinking tea, and eating cake. She went to the divan, an ebony monster with Chinoiserie fabric, turned and sat down but kept her face lowered to her phone.

Kimmy: feel free to send me a picture of that dick

She covered her own mouth, not even believing she actually texted that. But, shit, it was a Saturday, and this definitely wasn’t a work related matter. This was just two people talking, and it had nothing to do with her job.

She fanned her own face, trying not to break out laughing. She waited for an answer, secretly hoping that an image would pop up. But it didn’t, just another text.

Devlin: don’t think your phone has enough storage

Kimmy: that’s not how phones work

Devlin: oh okay then hold on

Kimmy: don’t you dare

Devlin: you want it or not?

She chewed her lip; her cheeks dimpled—she could feel them dimpled—chewing her lower lip and trying not to burst out laughing, trying not even to smile. What would Josh think, turning around and seeing her on the phone yet again dealing with Devlin? And smiling? He was already mad. She got up again, went near the window and leaned an elbow on the ledge, texting in return.

Kimmy: go ahead if you want, it’s your phone

Devlin: I’m afraid I can’t whip it out here I’m sitting in the suites

Kimmy: don’t worry about it then another time

Devlin: hang tight

What did she think she was doing? Why would she be texting with Devlin this? First of all, why would she be doing it at all? Second, why would she be doing it when she was having lunch with her dad? Using this opportunity to flirt with her boss while her husband was probably chatting about their future . . . Well, that was probably exactly why. Let them plan for the future, let her deal with the present. The present was about doing this thing. Finally doing it. Getting it over with. And enjoying it, because you know you’re going to enjoy it, don’t act like you’re not.

That was the thing, dealing with Devlin got her heart racing. More and more, just being around him had her only thinking about sex. Even now she could feel the heat at her core. Her stomach was warm, and it had nothing to do with the green tea. No, it was all about Devlin. Her husband’s bully, of all people. The man who’d sent some other dude across the street to punch Joshy in the stomach and get his jacket from him. The one who’d left her husband with an emotional scar, probably crying in the rain. What a shitty person she was. What a shitty person Devlin was two. One time was all it would be . . .

Her phone dinged.

Devlin: you sure you’re up for this?

Kimmy: I’ve cleared off all my phones hard drive. Lots of room for a picture of your giant dick

Devlin: you got me wanting to leave the game. Where are you?

Kimmy: told you. I’m at my pops place

Devlin: you texting me from your pops?

Kimmy: you texted me. I’m answering.

Devlin: I was just messing around, now I’m seriously getting the fuck out of the Jays game. Meet me somewhere

Kimmy: can’t. I’m in Markham. Enjoy your game

Devlin: here. picture for you. One from the archives, a classic…

Shit. He’d really sent a picture. She glanced over at Josh—still in close conversation with her dad. Josh talking with his hands, low to the table, telling them about what? Plans for their future? Assuring her father the babies were on the way? Pop had babies on the brain . . .

She pivoted, walked away to where no one could see her, walking out of the view from the dining room, deeper into the living room, stepping down into the family room and standing by dad’s big screen TV.

She touched the thumbnail image, already seeing in its small size a man standing with no clothes, and even at that tiny picture size could see the scale of his penis compared to his legs. And holy shit there it was. A real live picture just for her. Or, more accurately, probably for plenty of girls. As he’d said, it was a classic, one from the archives. Probably one of his favorite dick pictures that he loved to send to girls. But at least he’d sent it to her.

Good Lord, was it incredible. She’d touched that huge penis. Put her hands on that man’s hard and muscular body. And look at him . . . Standing across from a mirror, phone held up, handsome face studying his phone’s screen while he clicked the picture. Probably’d just worked out. God, she could even imagine a guy like Devlin might’ve gone to work out specifically to get pumped up for a good dick picture. It was worth it.

Muscles stood out all over, shoulders bulging, his chest a hard slab completely delineated from the swoop of his lats and narrow stomach. Hair on his chest, down his abdomen pointing to his bellybutton. He had stomach muscles, and he was flexing them. Vain, but she didn’t care because he looked so fucking hot. And his dick . . . Legitimately halfway down his thigh. Enormous. How could he wear pants? But it wasn’t upright and erect and ready to be pushed up inside her body (even though it was covered with her saliva and semen). Some of the girls who’d received this picture maybe never got to sleep with him. Never got to see his dick hard. Never got to feel his big hands on them. But she had. Believe it or not, Kimmy Chang had been with Devlin Stone.

Not all the way, but it was only a matter of time . . .

Kimmy: I love it

Devlin: how about that coochie pic now?

Kimmy: in your dreams,

She laughed out loud, then covered her mouth. Opened up the picture again, studied Devlin’s incredible naked body. Went back to the text.

Kimmy: what’s Monday? But I warn you my mind is fully in the gutter now

Devlin: you put it there. I need you for work on Monday.

Kimmy: shoot

Devlin: don’t worry, it’s drinks. Drinks with a couple of people I want you to meet, potential clients.

Kimmy: Chinese?

Devlin: no. Believe it or not I need you for more things than the languages you speak

Kimmy: pretty face?

Devlin: now you get it

She laughed again, feeling more comfortable talking with Devlin where no one could see her.

Kimmy: what’s it about?

Devlin: drinks at the bar at the Royal York. After work.

Drinks. After work. At night. At a hotel. And after drinks? . . .

Kimmy: I’ll be there

I wonder - at the end of chapter 2 KT said we were halfway through book 3 and now we're at chapter 13, so....

Glaucon

After I changed a**hole to "real tool", it was approved. Thanks, James! :)

DavidnDaria

This whole one-and-done thing is just Kimmy making it seem all right to herself to do the deed. Yep, she's onboard and Josh be damned. Unless she has a conversation with Devlin before the deed about the bullying (that would be half-assed decent thing to do) she's even a worse bully than Devlin ever was. Thing is, does she even care at this point? Dunno.

DavidnDaria

Even though it might have read like I was kidding, I wasn't. :) Peanut butter and raspberry rhubarb here. 50/50. I mix it until I get raspberry rhubarb flavored peanut butter.

DavidnDaria

This was more of a answer to others that said Kimmy couldn't or wouldn't be pushed into illegal activities. This is the only way I could see her bending the rules and then being drug into it deeper and deeper! I wish my first post hadn't got lost. There could be a similar conclusion where Kimmy gets in to deep with Devlin and maybe goes to Josh for help... Look I'm a bit like Josh that it is very hard to walk away from a person in trouble. Josh is in love with Kimmy and he may feel hurt but he will step up and lay it on the line for Kimmy to protect her. Don't get me wrong it's Kimmy's hubris that is allowing her to justify her actions! I'm just looking for a way back from where she is going. Maybe she doesn't want or need a way back? I brought it up before that young couples that marry early sometime grow apart and this could be the case with Josh and Kimmy. While it seems selfish Kimmy may realize she isn't that into having a family? She feels pressure from Josh and her dad to have kids. Nothing wrong with Kimmy deciding her vagina is a fun zone only! Only problem is she needs to let Josh know and move on. I understand Josh's need to have kids and a family. I was lucky to have a good career and ready emotionally to start a family when I met my wife. I was Josh and Kimmy's age when I got married so I had sowed my wild oats and had a very good idea who i was and what I wanted. My wife too was a couple of years younger but had defined herself already. It's a problem with Kimmy and Josh they see themselves as the couple "Kimmy and Josh" their circle of friends see them as "Kimmy and Josh". Kimmy is starting to think more of Kimmy and that is a problem if you are married. I feel for them both... Devlin's impact on Josh is so damaging. I can't reconcile how you don't send this story down a very dark path for Josh. "A Week On The Big Snake" went dark but it had a path back as the husband had a hand in her corruption. He took a good deal of the blame. That was a fixable situation. I can see her getting away with just onetime but I don't see that happening... Been a while since I had a Star Wars reference “Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.” Yoda.

RCH

You’re probably right about the lying being worse than the cheating on one level. Kimmy could of course simply allow it to become more obvious that she is screwing Devlin while insisting she is not and then tell Josh he only thinks she is doing it because he secretly wants her to. Now that would be some manipulation and lying. And no they probably wouldn’t recover from it - if he discovers the lie - which is not a given.

CSH

It’s been what 4 days, could that be the end of book 3 ?

Tim ziegler

Agree as well. Not really needed for the story.

CSH

Yeah, I agree on this one - it seems like a weird direction to pull the story without any established origin in the story so far, driven more by the audience wanting vengeance on a fictional character than a natural consequence of the character's actions.

Glaucon

There seems to be a big push lately here over Devlin doing illegal things, and I really hope that isn’t the case.. There is already something similar to this ending in Learned Lessons. Additionally, i can’t stand stories that end with the female having her livelihood ended just because she cheated. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Especially in this case where there are no kids involved. This is the one trope in this genre that I wish would die.

Chinookfan72

Bad for Josh, good for Devlin and fun for Kimmy. ;-)

DavidSilver

Soooo... is that a good thing, David? ;)

DavidnDaria

Kimmy, you are a fucking slut! - Just my first thought after reading the last two chapters.

DavidSilver

Well this hasn't happened in a while to me... A deleted post! it was a long one. I was addressing how there is a possibility that Kimmy could be pulled into illegal activities. Blackmail! She is setting herself up in a position to be blackmailed. Devlin could careless if he is caught hiding the salami with Kimmy. She on the other hand is trying to keep this secret from Josh! I can see a whole scenario where Devlin gets videos of their activities and uses them to coerce her into helping with something illegal(panda smuggling?). It could be this that ultimately save for Josh and Kimmy's marriage. Thing get too heavy and she confesses to Josh. Why does this work? Because Josh is a nice guy and he loves Kimmy. Kimmy is in trouble and he will help(damsel in distress). White knight vanquishes the evil Sir Devlin. I can see a tarnished happy ending for our couple. Kimmy helps the authorities nab the Stone family but get disbarred.

RCH

Chinookfan72, I'm very nasty and have trouble with self filtering! I have a little Asian lady at home that if you've read of some our experiences I've shared here you'll know we are both kinda nasty!

RCH

And which one of us is nasty :)? I’ve seen my fair share of little asian ladies taking double entendres and Kimmy’s a go-getter so she can make it happen. i’ll second your two cents RCH it would be nice to get it all in one big chunk (or if there is a character limit to posts, then all the small parts that make up the full scene)

Chinookfan72

That makes a whole lot of sense.Josh has already said Kimmy does not realize how low Devlin can go.Does Devlin us telling Josh about the cheating to do his bidding?

Tim ziegler

I’d say no, because Kimmy stands up for herself, it’s why Devlin and her got in a fight to begin with. Sure she’s attracted to Devlin, but she isn’t, nor do I believe she will ever be so infatuated with Devlin she’d be willing to risk her career. So in your hypothetical, I could see Kimmy helping until she’s exhausted all legal remedies (to try and prove something to Devlin), but then telling Devlin to fuck off once he asks her to do something illegal. I don’t get any sense that Kimmy is willing to do illegal acts to jeopardize her career, that would be too disgraceful to the family (pops).

Chinookfan72

There’s a lot of lying going on in this tale so it’s an interesting coincidence that I happened to come upon an article in the 20 Feb London Review of Books by Colin Burrow entitled “Fiction and the Age of Lies”. It explores authors’ use of the lie to, among other things, “educate readers to question their grounds for wanting to believe things.” In the process he makes some interesting points concerning liars and lie-ees that helps me understand why Josh is unable to see through Kimmy’s prefabrications. One is: the better the liar knows the lie-ee’s desires, the more the liar can operate on them. “The lie-ee is caught between the truths (he) wants and those (he) fears.” Kimmy knows very well Josh’s desire for her as she demonstrates with her facile lies. Burrow also notes lies have enormous effects because they work with our beliefs of what is true. Consequently, when discovered, a lie is more than a betrayal of trust as even in his anger the lie-ee also recognizes his credulity and realizes his “perceptual vulnerability” producing “grounds for believing anything at all seem fragile”. I would draw from this that Josh’s pleasure derived from sexual arousal at thoughts of Devlin and Kimmy is likely to be inadequate to compensate for his anger and devastation, not so much at Kimmy’s sexual betrayal, but rather her lying, manipulative behavior. This may well have more destructive effect on him than Devlin’s more straight forward bullying. But, as always, it’s in the hands of KT.

TF

Seriously, my favorite peanut butter combo is peanut butter and honey on a nice whole wheat bread! Almost forgot the PB needs to be crunchy natural style. It's a pain to mix up the oil but the taste and texture, yummy!

RCH

I agree the wants to fuck her, but after he fucks her, will he FUCK her (over?)

BNR

Yeah, he wants to fuck her.

Glaucon

Here is the original review: Love Hurts Josh loves Kimmy. Kimmy loves Josh. Josh thinks Devlin is an a**hole. Kimmy thinks Devlin's an a**hole. Then why? In this second book of the KT Morrison series "Devil in the Waters" we find out there is more to Devlin's plan to get into Kimmy's Waters. He truly wants Kimmy to work for him. He makes her a real offer and then... And then we find out that Kimmy is master of redirection: She's a lawyer, why wouldn't she be such? When you read this installment, read it very, very carefully. This is KT Morrison having Kimmy leave bread crumbs all over the place for Devlin to follow. It is brilliantly done, brilliantly presented, and it's starting to become brilliantly evil. Josh is evolving. Kimmy is evolving. We find out that Devlin is quite adept and being.. well, you'll have find out for yourself. While you're at it, check out ktmorrison.com and KT's Patreon. We're members of both and they're great! Oh, yeah...if you so choose, you can find out what happens in third installment of this series. Oh, yeah... "Love Hurts", Nazareth version, please. But in Josh's case, will it "Hurt So Good"?

DavidnDaria

My review was deleted, likely because I mentioned KT's site and Patreon. I've reposted without those references so we'll see.

DavidnDaria

I like to mix the peanut butter and jelly together... makes a nice, spreadable mix.

DavidnDaria

I think the majority of the other men in KT's books care about the husband's consent to one degree or another, like Apres Ski, Mary’s Pledge, Inconceivable, Happy Endings, A Week on the Big Snake, Cole in Maggie series, Finn in Chelsea Hates Libby. Of course that may just be because I prefer it went the other men are assholes :P.

Glaucon

The "big dick" is fetishized and symbolic of male sexual power - it represents an almost aspirational peak manhood for a lot of men, and losing their wife/girlfriend to a man with a bigger dick is losing them to someone symbolically more man than they, more sexually powerful, a brute, crude, animalistic "better," that the husband/bf could never possibly match, especially when size plays a big role in the woman's attraction. But even more importantly than that is the role size plays in the sex scenes, as happens in Kimmy's mind when imagining what it would be like, the contrast of Josh and Devlin, where Devlin would devastate, conquer, etc. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but as a short explanation.

Glaucon

Do you think Kimmy could stretch enough to take a double entendre! I can see an innuendo as long as she used plenty of lube. Seriously after I reread Devlin text I see he was asking if she was still angry... I am 100% sure that after Monday's drinks with clients his question will have another meaning! Whether she stays the night or not Kimmy going to have her world rocked. It's going to interesting to see how KT crafts the hotel meeting. KT could just have her get cold feet and head home. Kimmy is not a big drinker so it could go either way. I don't see her getting sloppy drunk as this is a business meeting so she'll be professional. I also don't see her getting cold feet either. She has given herself permission to taking things farther with Devlin. We've already seen how Kimmy is unable to resist Devlin's manipulations. Devlin to this point has put the breaks on things leaving Kimmy wanting more and her resistance lowering. The reunion her resistance was still high. Then the apartment it dropped a notch. In the roadster she got a taste with a condom. The container she was ready to do it. Devlin backed off the one in control. Kimmy will not have any hesitation at the hotel. Devlin has managed to get Kimmy to willingly come to him. She'll submit and different Kimmy will walk out of that hotel room than the one that went in. She'll be sore but not angry! KT just my two cents but I would like to have (if something happen at the hotel) to have the complete situation presented at once. Even if it took a week or so to present it in multiple chapters. It would improve the flow. I could be the only one that feels this way. It's not that big of a deal( Oh, with Devlin I guess it is). :) I'm in the process of listening to book 2 on my drive pickup on some of the stuff I missed or forgot. Gives you a different time perspective than reading on Pateon in chapters.

RCH

So maybe there is more than one reason Devlin is paying a relatively inexperienced lawyer big bucks.

TF

Agreed! But I get the impression Amy will be the "salve" that will follow the devastation that Devlin will rot the "Marriage formally know as Josh and Kimmy."

BNR

Ha-ha! I sure did! :D But I don't see it being as simple as "Hey, break these laws for me Kimmy, cause my big dick says so!" Picture this: I see Devlin challenging Kimmy to help out one of his clients with her superior LEGAL-FU~! And makes her take "point" on it so that he has plausible deniability when the clients get investigated. Maybe she even call him on the situation of clients being "south of proper" but Devlin makes her feel like Kimmy might be too clean living for the lifestyle of a high profile "Real Attorney" work he says he needs. Then poor Kimmy is left holding the proverbial bag... Only when it is too late does she see how little she actually means to Devlin or how much deception and far down Devlin is willing to dig to swing one last hatchet at poor Josh. By not only dismantling his perfect little marriage with the wedge that his big dick between him and Kimmy but also by causing collateral damage to someone Josh loves in the total devastation of Kimmy's legal career. CHECKMATE!

BNR

Asshole was a flippant generalization and maybe an exaggeration but not much in Devlin's case for sure. More of an example of the polar shift in options for the main female protagonists that KT seems to have. Why is it never choosing between two guys with huge cocks? ("Maggie" was the one series with two guys with big dicks and KT made one a HUGE asshole so that they HAD to get rid of him.) Just wondering if this is a choice to ALWAYS use that "Bigger dick" trope. I know that it works for KT, OBVIOUSLY! I'm not saying that this is a poor choice, but I wanted to understand, that is really it.

BNR

Amy was mentioned above. I can see Kimmy getting in contact with Amy after the deed is done. Or maybe Amy contacts her after she hears about it from Devlin!

RCH

Just read too much into the sandwich part!

RCH

I can see that.. Truth be told that is one of the more tame stories too.

Chinookfan72

I’m all for it for sure. I just don’t know how far down the rabbit hole KT will go, if she decides to go this way at all. Certainly this story will be different than her other stories, but KT is an established brand and might not take it as far as some would like. I believe she’s talked about this previously and why she uses other pen names for some of her other stories that might push certain boundaries.

Chinookfan72

Why is that RCH? Cause I like PB&J You’re not wrong BTW.

Chinookfan72

I wanted to strangle Gary the whole book.

Tim ziegler

I’ve seen a couple people bring it up. I think the likelihood of illegal stuff happening is small and even if Devlin is involved I can’t see Kimmy being involved.. She doesn’t need to take that risk.

Chinookfan72

from what I’ve gathered from your posts Manus Dare is not for you.

Chinookfan72

I’d say it depends on what you mean by asshole.. Devlin is definitely different as he is more of a bully, but I don’t think many of the other men are nice guys either.

Chinookfan72

If it was just a normal conversation I’d agree 100% that he would notice. However they were talking family.. Not only does Josh have a hard on to start one, he also sees that as the way to get Kimmy to stop working for Devlin so I think he had to be invested in that conversation because he was probably trying to gets pops and girlfriend on board with him, not only that isn’t she kind of turned away from Josh so he can’t really see her? It wouldn’t surprise me if he heard the giggle though. As for Monday night My money is Kimmy telling josh she had too much to drink and stays at the hotel.. Not hangover drunk cause it’s Monday and she’ll still have to work the next day, but just too drunk to drive home.

Chinookfan72

Has anyone given any thought to Devlin being a total ass he is that he has a lot of shady or illegal business dealings would he ask Kimmy to cover the up and would she doit

Tim ziegler

I’ve had a couple dropped comments no idea why so here’s another one,I seen you guy mention Manus Dare found him and read The Wrong Brother man that was harsh I had to scrub my eyes after reading that!

Tim ziegler

I agree with chinookfan72 about having Kimmy become an acolyte of Devlin. The seeds of this are already growing. It would make the series different than KT’s others but that could be a good thing if done right.

CSH

I think of it this way... Your wife takes a text from work while you're there, together at her dad's place. She simply says what she said, and then walks off. You don't truly trust her, you know something is up. Do you stay immersed in the thrilling coversation? You look at the clock and you realize the "call" has taken longer than normal. What do you do? See, this is where the real meat starts. Kimmy is all in. She's starting to be sloppy. Cheaters get sloppy over time. Not only is she sloppy, she's giddy. The bread crumbs are starting to line up. Hopefully she showers before she comes home Monday night--if she makes it. Maybe she'll say she just got too drunk and got a room? Then, upon her return she takes the day off, feigns a huge hangover thus putting off Josh until things down there return to normal. But what's she going to do about that love bite where her inner leg meets her torso? Just a couple of thought!

DavidnDaria

I got no notification. I just searched for KT on Amazon and there it was. Cover is very dark, like the story is becoming. Brilliant depiction.

DavidnDaria

I’m going with a double entendre

Chinookfan72

Yeah I was in the dark too. Thanks for the heads up DND

Chinookfan72

Oh shit it is! Are you getting notifications or something?

Glaucon

Yeah, it's an innuendo

Glaucon

I won't pretend to know where this is going, but I like to think we can't necessarily look to old KT books to see where this will go - I think this is fundamentally different from any other long-form series/spic novel KT's written in that it is not an affair going on with the husband’s blessing. I don't think the previous work archetypes necessarily hold up here.

Glaucon

I would argue that most of the "other men" in KT books are not particularly assholes (which is part of why I like this book so much haha)

Glaucon

Wait book 2 is out?

Glaucon

And on yet another note, our book 2 review has been submitted. "Love Hurts", Nazareth version.

DavidnDaria

Good chapter...nothing to add after the in depth analysis except...Kimmy is a real cool operator getting her personalized porno kicks and confirming an assignation with her boss/crush while her husband, father, and girlfirend-in-law chat over tea and crumpets in the next room. Well they are planning her future (ha) while she is planning her present (which obviously doesn't include her family).

i thought it was sore as in angry. Since she was angry with his attitude after the fingering, not physical soreness. As for Monday, there is no way there is any resistance. It’s also at a hotel so it foreshadowing (Devlin finally gets her in a hotel bed fo4 their first time.) I’m hoping Devlin convinces her to text Josh that she’s had too much to drink and the company is covering a room for her tonight. Since she works in Toronto it’s safer to just drive to work in the morning than try and drive home, and it’s free so it’s way cheaper than taking Ubers.. That’ll free up Devlin and Kimmy for the whole night, and maybe give Josh a chance to spy (or sit at home and go crazy).

Chinookfan72

Sl%t! Wow, I can't see Kimmy being deterred from slipping upstairs with Devlin after drinks with his clients. Devlin's interest in if he had made her sore. I'm assuming that that was the fingering incident at the docks? Or did I miss a chapter? I'll assume just the dock incident. Funny she didn't answer him. From the question I would say Devlin is interested in doing some Tera-forming on Kimmy's vagina. We'll see how thing go in the next chapter. Everyone had good points.

for the illegal stuff I’m not saying it’s not going to happen it could, but it’s not where I’d take the story. It wouldn’t be uncommon in the genre for the friend to start out disliking the husband, but after watching her friend fuck him over begin to feel sorry for him and eventually like him. This was the journey I was referring to in my prior post. So right now she could assist in Kimmy’s falling for Devlin, and in the end become a confidant for Josh. As for KT’s theme big cocks is for sure one, asshole attitudes is there for the most part (I’d argue Finn in Chelsea hates Libby isn’t an asshole, nor is the teenager in 6 weeks an asshole). I’d think it common for a woman to pick a man who is opposite of the husband/boyfriend to cheat/hotwife with. As most of the men (Happy Endings and 6 weeks excluded) are more meek and passive, it’s only logical the women pick out the confident self assured guy for the bull.

Chinookfan72

heck no, no one believes Kimmy when she says one and done.. I highly doubt she truly believes it. It’s like when you have a box of Oreos and you say “I’ll have just one. One cookie isn’t bad, yeah”.. flash forward 10 minutes, the box of Oreos is gone, there is cookie dust all over and you feel like a fat slob (but deep down you did exactly what you intended to do). As to your prior post Donkatsu, it really depends on where KT wants to take the story. A case can be made that Kimmy is into the fact that Devlin is Josh’s bully, and after Devlin claims Kimmy, she could become more under his spell than she already is and he could begin to brainwash her into think Josh is weak and a loser and she deserves better. A that’s where I hope it goes, but ultimately that would probably turn off a great deal of KT’s audience, so my prediction is it doesn’t go that dark. My prediction is KT will never close the door in the possibility of a reconciliation between Josh and Kimmy.

Chinookfan72

Learn this now, this is no such thing as "Enough." Especially to people who have money. Why would Thomas Crown steal art? Not because he couldn't buy it, no. The THRILL! And as for girls that might be in, back in or just surround of Kimmy and Josh'a future than I see that you might have a good point, Chinookfan72! Maybe Karina comes back only to become one more fly for Devlin's web! But I have a desired to have Amy be the one that used to be with Devlin and now is immune to his thrall. Maybe. Or maybe she liked it so much she draws other victims to the lover/abuser she used to enjoy? Lastly, these KT stories all have one underlining theme. Bic Cocks and Asshole Attitudes make woman melt like warm ice cream. No matter then intelligence or the moral fortitude. Am I wrong or far off here? I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I just like to think out loud.

BNR

You never know, Donkatsu. Maybe she can do it... for a while. Maybe she can keep it from Josh and act nromally. If this chapter is any indication, it's all about the Tube Steak Boogie and acting like a besotted teen.

DavidnDaria

And does Kimmy really believe her own nonsense about “one and done?”

Donkatsu

One of the most interesting parts of this revelation is how it facilitates Kimmy’s jumping in with both feet. Does her knowledge of at least part of the Josh-Devlin history feed her lack of regard for Josh? Is he now a “loser” in her eyes, as per Amy? Can she and Josh ever return to a respectful and loving marriage once Josh is in the loop, and Devlin will surely make it his business to let Josh know in the most hurtful way?

Donkatsu

the reluctance and submission are like peanut butter and jelly you need them both to make a sandwich.

Chinookfan72

It certainly could lead to illegal dealings. I know there is a strong push by some to punish the cheater. Personally I’m not a fan of that type of story, but I do understand it. For this particular story the illegal stuff doesn’t make much sense. Kimmy has too many options in life than to resort to illegal dealings. Her and Josh aren’t hurting for money, she could get another job someplace else. Perhaps Devlin is doing some illegal matters and that’s what eventually gets him out of the way and allows Josh and Kimmy to reconnect and realize they are good for each other.. Then again, as Glauc has pointed out in other chapters, Devlin comes from money, he’s running an established business I’m sure he has plenty of legitimate dealings to make him the money he needs, so even Devlin doing illegal stuff to me doesn’t fit with the story. Amy probably has a bigger potential journey than Karina if KT goes that way, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if Josh has feelings for Karina, which Devlin can leverage for more humiliation. It really just depends on where KT takes the story.

Chinookfan72

maybe you are right Glauc, when the book comes out I’m sure KT will put dates in the chapter headings so we know how much time skipped. If The gap between now and last chapter is only a day I could see it your way, if it’s been a couple of days I can’t imagine that conversation just being allowed to fester.

Chinookfan72

Agreed. I think after the last chapter we have to accept what she has already accepted. Clearly accepted. Foregone conclusion that she believes that she has somehow earned.

BNR

I also see it going the way you describe, but I have a feeling that the story might lead Devlin and Kimmy to make some not so "legal" maneuvers and although I feel like you might be right that Kimmy has evolved that it doesn't preclude Josh from also evolving. Maybe to match Kimmy but more than likely he finds another to meet his new persona. Maybe KT surprises us with whom he pairs Josh with for the end. I see Amy making her way back into this story more than Karina. At least from my point of view. Karina had been there for the worse moment for Josh but I think Josh called it when he said she was at that same instant, "being with Karina Brubaker was lost..." Plus I think that Amy knows more than we have been told. (ominous theme playing)

BNR

I feel as though Kimmy always knew it was a rationalization, even as she thought it last chapter (I don't think they talked about it again or we would have seen it). This is a recurring theme in her thoughts, she recognizes the rationalizations even as she makes them (she knows Devlin's running a game on her and feeding her lies, she knows she's lying to herself about justifying actions she's taking, etc.), but she presses on anyway because she WANTS to.

Glaucon

Last chapter she was rationalizing, this chapter she’s accepted it and deemed it not serious enough to end dealings with Devlin. Kimmy isn’t aware Karina was there (Josh never told her who he was with). My expectation is Josh and Kimmy talked it out further so her rationalization doesn’t work any more (I’d expect we’ll get at least a mention to this in the future). I can’t imagine Kimmy and Josh not talking further when they both got home after last chapter.

Chinookfan72

I don’t think this story is going to be a strictly cheating story (from Josh’s perspective). He’ll be brought into the know, the fact the story continues will be in large part because Josh will allow it to (there are many reason why he might, both willingly or reluctantly). So it’s not as simple as a hero (Josh) and villains (Kimmy and Devlin). That being said I personally don’t see Kimmy and Josh as a good fit so to me the best outcome for everyone is to separate prior to having a child and finding someone that fits better. Perhaps Kimmy and Josh fit when Kimmy was an unmotivated law student turned immigration attorney wanting to start a family and make baskets at home. Now, even if she wasn’t fucking Devlin, they are growing apart, and I’d expect that gap to continue to grow, not retract especially if Kimmy starts having success at work. In the end everyone is better off and a Devlin was just the means to shine the light on the issues in their relation and get them to where they need to be in order to be happy in the end.

Chinookfan72

I can see both ways being a possibility. I guess that strictly, secret cheating that don't involve the husband until the story is over. The marriage is shown to me made out of wet paper. The respect has long since been thrown out the window and the Wife has been saving the worst poison or most damaging news to push her husband into eating a bullet or jumping off a bring. The wife and her lover are laughing maniacally while twirling their mustaches like cartoon villains, Snidely Whiplash, Dick Dastardly or Boris and Natasha! That is a very dated extreme ( *age check* ) but this kind of outcome would soil the ending for me.

BNR

Kimmy knows that Devlin sent Johnny Rumble to get the jacket. This contradicts the last chapter where she doubts Devlin’s role in initiating the fight and theft, ascribing it mostly to Johnny’s Daddy approval issues.Maybe she has talked to Karina or maybe she is remembering the earlier conversation with Karina. In my experience the boss of the gang always issues an order or an approval, even if only with a gesture.

Donkatsu

Agreed. It seems like Kimmy is all in on the one time at this moment. So Devlin will need to make the first time count! Then I’d imagine it’s going to take some time for Kimmy to realize Josh gets off on this stuff, and once she does look out.

Chinookfan72

I agree with Glauc, I want this to go as long as possible with Kimmy believing she is cheating. While I certainly understand there are some people here that want Josh and Kimmy to venture into hot wife territory, that wasn’t the original story pitch.. That being said, the pitch did include Josh being in the know. So I hope that comes back as well. I’d love to see a Devlin and Josh face to face interaction leading to renewed contact between the two. (we haven’t seen one since the tent and Devlin did say “I’ll be seeing you”). To appease the Josh fans my assumption is KT is going to eventually have Josh get off on the updates as a way to include him, but that is just an assumption that could be way off.

Chinookfan72

I think Josh was well distracted by Pops and his friend talking kids.. I’m sure Josh was just as into that conversation as Kimmy was into hers. Josh was probably plotting how to use Pops to put pressure on Kimmy to have kids in hopes someone else can get her to quit work so he doesn’t have to tell any more stories.

Chinookfan72

I keep getting ideas about how far things could go with Kimmy fully corrupted but I gotta keep my head in the present and enjoy it haha.

Glaucon

I love the reluctance too though - honestly that's what makes it for me

Glaucon

Personally, I'm less interested in seeing that aspect (especially given the prompt we voted on implying it would not be a major aspect). I think it would be interesting to read a long-form cheating story where the husband's desires don't play much of a role int he wife's infidelity, but I'm sure it'll be good no matter what happens.

Glaucon

We haven't seen that "my cheating gets my hubby off" moment yet with Kimmy, have we? (I could have missed or dismissed it...) I think her motivations to this point are selfish in nature. If she does get that response from Josh in a more definite and testable fashion then we might see some TRULY DIRTY wife action! Perhaps in the "Fertility Rights" variety! (That was certainly hinted at already.)

BNR

Sorry about the deleted comment. Having some trouble adjusting to the system. Just wanted to agree that the chapter is perfect in setting up future possibilities. Love the fact that she is all in with it now. If she is this much in thrall to Devlin now, I can’t wait to see what she is like after they actually do it. In accepting her desire for Devlin she seems like Maggie with teeth - which might mean Josh is in for a rough ride if she figures out he is getting off on the possibility of her betrayal. After all, she will “want the best” for the both of them. KT does a wonderful job of showing the love between the two. It’s the depth of the characters here that makes it all work and I hope she can take her time in letting it play out.

CSH

I wonder if Josh was so obliviious that he didn't catch the high school girl stuff... the chain, the smile... all that stuff. It would seem that Kimmy acting like that right in her Dad's place might subconsiously mean she wants to get caught or... if she did catch Josh's predicament in the last chapter, she's playing up to him. Such behavior! Shameful! :)

DavidnDaria

I really love how into fucking Devlin Kimmy is. I feel like we rarely get this kind of straight forward feelings from the female characters. It seems like there are so many things that prevent that kind of stuff being talked about, probably by design by the author. Maggie would talk about how hot Cole was, but it was always couched in friendship between the three of them, and reluctance to give in to her feelings, etc. KT also probably does that to build suspense ... This is Kimmy being straight up, "I want to fuck that man." Lol! What's also interesting is Kimmy feeling like she is accomplishing something to her younger self and classmates, proving her value by being desired by him. Devlin has certainly awoken a confidence in her that may or may not be healthy, the jury is still out on that, lol.

JamesIsAsleep

And on the way home, Josh asks, "So, what was so important about work that you spent twenty minutes texting?" Kimmy, Mrs. One and Done.

DavidnDaria

If it blows up I also hope Josh can find a soft landing.. maybe Karina, maybe someone else, maybe an introspection that he realizing he is young and someone better for him is out there. Whatever it maybe.

Chinookfan72

Agreed, shes jumping in with both feet, with fucking Devlin. Flirting back is so scorching ... loved it. Hot considering all the reluctance up to this moment.

JamesIsAsleep

Another great chapter KT. I love the schizophrenic nature of this story, with the a Kimmy and a Josh parts being dark and heavy and the Devlin and Kimmy parts being lighter and happier... Can’t wait til Monday!

Chinookfan72

This might rival Cherry Blossoms...for my taste. Watching Kimmy getting more and more comfortable with Devlin. Thinking it's no big deal to flirt with him while watching her husband and dad talking. Maybe even getting off on it. Telling herself just one time. Uh huh. I love the risk she now wants to take despite the serious damage it could do to her relationship with Josh. I could definitely see Devlin and Kimmy into way more than just sex. Like watching a potential train wreck that neither of them really wants to acknowledge. I seriously hope Josh has some potential with Karina if this blows up.

Wess

This is getting really good - showing Kimmy's giving in to her desires by degrees. Another excellent chapter, KT! (Typo - "What a shitty person Devlin was two.")
