What's Josh going to do?
Added 2020-03-28 14:19:11 +0000 UTCJosh is sure Kimmy just left the house wearing intimate lingerie. The first real proof of her active involvement in this imaginary bullying Devlin is weighing down on him. Or is it proof? Shit, is it, or isn't it?
What's Josh going to do?

exactly.. Also the more gradual Josh is brought along the longer the story goes, and hopefully the darker it can get.

2020-03-28 23:46:44 +0000 UTCI like spy just for Josh's torment. Watching Kimmy's flirtatious behavior while they're having drinks. Maybe leave when their business friends leave thinking Kimmy will be home soon and then waiting...and waiting. Eventually faking sleep when K gets home very late and sneaks into bed. Kimmy of course will have a good cover story when he asks about her late night. And he's right back to wondering but recognizing his denial.

2020-03-28 22:45:10 +0000 UTCI voted spy as he has a history of doing so...just did it checking on what K is wearing. Interesting scenarios sketched out by others already but remember K is still thinking this is going to be a one time thing. Don't think these other possibilities will happen until after the second time.

2020-03-28 18:27:23 +0000 UTCI think Josh has it in him to be crazy, but he is not crazy enough right now.. But let’s say after a year of acclimating all this circumstantial evidence, and a year of Devlin’s humiliating communications detailing all the debauchery he and Kimmy have been up to, offset by a years worth of failed spying attempts and thousands of dollars on PI’s to track Kimmy to come up with nothing, yeah I could see him going crazy. The question would become does Josh allow for all that to accumulate, or does he hit his breaking point... who knows.. Just like the frog in the boiling pot, if Josh is brought up slowly he might stay around and fry himself, however if Kimmy turns up the heat too quickly maybe Josh hops out of the pot all together..

2020-03-28 18:18:25 +0000 UTCExcellent point, Chinook. Chinook. Does Josh really have it in him to be as crazy as Nash? Isn’t he more likely to put everything on a spreadsheet and use the “precedent” and “dependent” functions to draw the lines? Not nearly as interesting. In the meantime, Kimmy is like the outfielder who solves the complex dynamic optimization problem of a hooking fly ball while on the run; not so much for Josh. Good points about Josh seeing Kimmy in a new light.

2020-03-28 17:44:49 +0000 UTCi would like to see Josh come to the hotel to spy, get spotted and then play it off as him coming to get Kimmy as a surprise. They could all three have drinks or even dinner while Devlin secretly teases and feels up Kimmy. It would bring our three together and focus Kimmy and Devlin on the need to overcome Josh to get what they want. Kimmy by gaslighting him and using sex. Devlin by bullying and humiliation. Kimmy would really go to town on Josh when they got home, both emotionally and sexually. Or even she might convince him to now go home and wait while she and Devlin finish their important business. Now that would have all the elements rolled into one, her gaslighting and shaming him, Devlin needling him during drinks, Josh feeling ashamed, humiliated, and the fool, and then him going home to wait while Devlin and Kimmy secretly cuckold him.

2020-03-28 17:29:13 +0000 UTCWell played Donkatsu.. I would hope if Josh is “caught” Kimmy remains unaware.. you are correct if they were just honest with each other that would lead to the optimal solution, but unfortunately I don’t see them resorting to honesty for a while, and by then Devlin has blown up the foundation. Perhaps Josh, being John Nash, will take a step back at the bar, realize the Kimmy he is watching control a business meeting, (powerful, sexy, smart etc.) is a Kimmy with a lot of potential suitors. Ultimately whether or not she is banging Devlin becomes moot because he realizes this Kimmy is going undoubtedly be in contact with more confident, smart, attractive men and at least one of them will be a superior fit with Kimmy than he is.. So Josh decides to find a perfectly suitable replacement who is being ignored, thus they end up reaching the Nash equilibrium just apart.

2020-03-28 16:33:04 +0000 UTCBut remember, CF, the result always ends up at the “Nash Equilibrium” as long as the game obeys certain mathematical properties and is fully specified (I.e., the game is finite). I have a feeling this one is more like the “Prisoner’s Dilemma” where the Nash Equilibrium is not optimal for Kimmy or Josh but represents a dominant strategy. Only trust can yield a good outcome for both parties. Once Josh is caught spying on Kimmy her trust for him joins respect for Josh in the circular file. Similarly, Josh is not inclined to trust Kimmy unless he is in the presence of her Jedi force. Devlin is there to set off dynamite charges in the foundation whenever trust starts to rebuild.

2020-03-28 16:12:15 +0000 UTCWe voted for spy because Josh has done it in the past and because... 1) Find My Phone. 2) Kimmy knows Josh knows where she's going to be. She, we think, will know that she told Josh where she'd be--she doesn't want to get caught so she'll switch it up, phone Josh and tell him she's too buzzed to drive but her phone won't be in the designated hotel.

2020-03-28 15:33:49 +0000 UTCI vote spy, but just like Josh’s other snooping attempts I hope it comes up fruitless. He shows up and Kimmy appears to be doing absolutely nothing wrong, acting exactly how anyone would expect an employee to act in a business meeting setting... I really like the mind fuck Josh is going through he has all these little clues, but the rug gets pulled out from under him. Towards the end of the book if Josh is in a secret bunker somewhere with all his circumstantial evidence on a cork board with lines of string connecting everything that would be great. As someone who studied a lot of economics in college any homage to John Nash is a good one in my book. That being said any of the four is fine with me as long as Josh doesn’t get definitive proof.. I know I posted this on the last chapter but to me if Josh spies I wouldn’t mind Devlin confronting Josh as Josh is leaving (completely sure there is nothing going on between Kimmy and Devlin) and have Devlin rub his nose in it a bit.. that being said I’m not sure my scenario is that believable as I can’t imagine Josh not going back in to talk to Kimmy afterward..

2020-03-28 15:10:46 +0000 UTCI really dont know on this one, I'm going to abstain

2020-03-28 14:33:02 +0000 UTCNot sure if this is a vote for stew and suffer or something else, but I kinda think Devlin should be the one rubbing Josh’s nose in it, so to speak.
